Enter this code: Play 1, 5, 9, 055 000 000 000 Play.

This will only work if you haven`t used up all of your 25 code entries. If you have a One For All 6, Palm Pilot or Pronto etc, use the RC6 method and enter only [RC6 signal] 055 000 000 000 Play.

No, the zone 1 DVD plays fine on your Philips 755! The problem is that your TV cannot display NTSC pictures.

There are two solutions -- either get hold of a "video standards converter" and plug it between your DVD player and your TV, or get a new(er) TV which can display NTSC pictures. :)

The last "something" that is displayed is actually a tiny little "5". There is only room for 11 digits on the main display, the last digit uses the smaller numbers underneath.

Further, the SCART lead you need for RGB is usually known as a "full specification" SCART lead (i.e. it has all of the pins connected). The RGB compatible SCART socket on a TV is almost always the first socket.

I got mine from Dixons. I had to ask for it though, as some stores don`t keep them on display. If they don`t have any in stock, they should be able to order one for you. I payed £35 for mine when I got it, but if you look around you can probably get hold of one for about £25.

Well this indicates that there may be a problem with the remote. Try calling the OneForAll helpline (in the manual) and they should be able to help you. Your remote *may* need an upgrade which can be done over the phone (the remote has an ickle modem inside it, bless...)

I can answer most of your questions, although I have a 710 myself. The picture quality is great, sound is good too (although the 710 doesn`t have optical out, only a regular digital out - I`m not sure about the 756 here though).
You can use a OneForAll 6 (possibly a 5 too), a Palm Pilot using OmniRemote software or a Philips Pronto. The hack is very easy to perform and it is RCE (Regional Coding Enhancement) compatible too. Sorry, there is no way to remove Macrovision at the moment, but a few of us here are working on a firmware update to remove it. Keep an eye on this site and on http://www.ianc.net/philips for further news as and when there is any! :)

Colin, I`m not saying you were wrong in what you said, but I mean that if you intend for something to be taken as being light-hearted fun, then use a smiley! I cannot stress enough how important the use of smileys is and as we can see, one misjudged comment can snowball out of proportion. Remember that the written word does not easily convey emotion. That goes for everyone else too, including Mr Verth. I do have to admit, however, that his reply did come as a shock though. Perhaps he had just had a bad day. Eh, Allan? I think that this thread should finish here - this forum is a place where people come to discuss and help each other with region hacking their DVD hardware, and at the moment it is not serving its purpose very well. As I said in my previous post: "Everyone, please try and be nice." I will also take this opportunity to suggest that if anyone has a problem with someone else then they let them know in a polite manner, preferably by private email.

Okay, here`s my input... Allan discovered that you can hack Philips DVD
players using a OneForAll remote, and he was good enough to share the
information with us. After having regular contact with him a while now, I
can say that he is a "genuinely nice bloke". Perhaps he has been a bit
offensive, but I know he has received comments from people who have
basically told him that his hack doesn`t work and have more or less called him
a liar to his face, without even bothering to check the actual region hack
instruction pages on this very site to see if they are doing things
correctly. As a result he quite rightly gets frustrated from time to time.
In the case of Colin`s display problems with his Grundig TV and Philips
711, this is quite probably down to the TV. Some TVs have problems with
certain peripherals (e.g. my Philips widescreen TV sometimes doesn`t
switch aspect when it should when I watch digital cable. I`ve learned to
live with this, and I just change it manually). Buying another TV would
indeed be a solution to for Colin and also for myself with my particular
problem. Colin, Allan isn`t forcing you to buy a new TV, he was only
offering some advice. Perhaps the addition of a winking smiley on the end
of your "gold block" comment would have made it seem less like an attack
towards Allan. And Allan, *please* try to watch your language, perhaps you
should use a few more smileys too! :) As for the sniping over peoples`
spelling and grammatical errors, remember that some people on this forum
*may* have dyslexia. I can safely say that most of us don`t know the first
thing about anyone else on this forum, aside from the fact that most of
us have a DVD player of some sort. So please, everyone, try and be nice!

The hack is 100% compatible with RCE. It should be possible to turn it off by entering the "reset to factory defaults" code with the RC6 method. You *have* to use either a OneForAll 5 or 6, a PalmPilot with OmniRemote or a Philips Pronto remote to access the engineers` code entry thingy, otherwise your player will lock up on the 25th attempt. You should never need to disable the hack though - as I said, it works fine with RCE protected discs. :)

Yep, permanent! And it`s RCE compatible too (so you can play the R1 version of The Patriot if you wish). You`ll never need to enter another code again! :)

Yeah, let`s just chill! :) The Philips hack does work on all Philips players. There is a slight problem with getting the hack to work on the 701, but I`m sure there`s a way around this. Allan Verth knows the Philips players inside and out... ;)

Phil Luckett: If you`d care to check the region hack pages of this very site, you`d find that there is an index for all of the fully remote hackable players. If you click on any of the Philips links, it will bloody well tell you that the hack works for all Philips DVD players. And lay off Allan Verth. If it wasn`t for him, none of us would have known about this hack in the first place. Is that clear enough for you?

AFAIK, the OneForAll 5 can do this (it has a DVD button too). I`m not sure about the OneForAll 4, but I hear that you can assign the RC6 code to the Video button. I can`t say whether this is for definite though...
