This is the Hack for your player..apparently

1. Turn on the Player.
2. Press the Open / Close button, (keep tray open)
3. Press the Clear button.
4. Press 1,3,6,9.
5. Press the Region you want, 0 for Region free.1 for Region 1 and so on
6. Turn off and on your player.

N.B if the hack does not work you may find you have to ommit step 3 and try again.so the hack will be

1.Turn on the Player
2.Press the Open / Close button , (keep tray open)
3.Press 1,3,6,9
4.Press the button for the Region you want, 0 for Region free, 1 for Region 1 and so on.
5.Turn on and off your player.

Also you may have some trouble playing R.C.E ( Region Code Enhanced) Disks with this Player...if you do you may need to change the Player to Region 1 to play them ...to do this you will need to substitute the 0 in step 4 or 5 (depending on hack used) to the number 1 ...and obviously 2,3,4,5 & 6 for other specific regions if required.

Can you confirm which one does work ...or not... once you find which one it is .

Happy Hacking

Try This one ...it is a long shot though

1. Turn on the Player with no disc on the tray. The tv screen and the DVD Player L.C.D will display "No Disk"

2. Press the "Repeat" key on the Samsung remote control

3. Press the keys: "5 7 5 3 8" on the remote. A number must appear on the screen. That is your player`s current region.

4. Press the number for the region you want to use next ( 1 , 2 , etc). If you want your DVD player to be unlocked for all the regions press "9". A number should appear in the screen.

5. Press the "Open / Close" button in the remote. The tray will open. Leave it open for a few seconds.

6. Just press the "On / Off" button in the remote.

Let the forum Know if it works ...or not

If it does not work... I am sorrry to be the bearer of what is sort of Bad News :(

The Only other reference I have to the Samsung P231 model for Hacking is to use the Aiwa remote control as mentioned before see this page for more info.

http://www.videohelp.com/dvdhacks.php?select=Samsung+DVD-P231

not sure how much it would cost to purchase such a Remote ...but maybe E-Bay or somewhere similar may have it .....a Google search may also help with that one...just ensure if you do buy it the buttons required are on it ;)

here is an example of the Remote you require

http://www.remotes.com/remotes/servlet/rs?a=gmi&smodel=RCT501&brand_pn=AIWA_RCT501&mode=large&vendor=1&uid=A1138619166578

And it is worse news for your Panasonic Player SCHT 680 ,as with Most ...not all ...Panasonic Players cannot be Hacked using the Handset supplied with the Player , they need a service remote control or an update disk to do this.

Not sure if Panasonic themselves ...or the Store you purchased the player from will be able to help you with that ...but you can always use the services of a "Chipping Company" who will definately be able to help you....but obviously at a cost !

an example of one of those companies is here

http://www.multiregionupgrades.com/upgrades/pana.htm

But there are plenty more of them ...and a Gooogle search will help you find them

Something else you may have to consider also when deciding on an upgrade for you player is that some players that are made for Region 1 (NTSC) only ...even if made Multiregion will still not be able to play R2 PAL / European disks only R2 Japanese NTSC disks as the Machine is NTSC only and just cannot read PAL no matter what ...this may not apply to your player ... but is worth checking out.

Sorry I cannot help you more on these matters ....but your players can be made Region Free ....but require a little more work than with your Memorex player

Of course somebody else reading this may know better and I am sure as with most forums they will take great pleasure in pointing out any errors ...and send you in a totally different direction.

Hope this helps ....a little ;)

Happy Hacking
