Help Philips 704 and new One 4 All remote

chuck (Harmless) posted this on Monday, 5th November 2001, 02:43

I just bought myself a Philips 704 DVD player. I`m trying to do the multiregion hack to it so I bought a new One for All remote the video expert model. I set up the remote for the philips dvd player using the correct code and I can operate the DVD player with it. I reprogrammed a key for the hidden menu, but when I got to use it nothing happens. Does anyone know if the Philips 750 Hack work for the 704? Do I need an old One for All remote? Any help would be great!

Thanks!

Okay with the new One 4 All remote (video expert in the US URC-4081B00) I programmed the DVD button with the code 0539 for Philips DVD players. I then pressed DVD the set/magic button for two blinks then the code 994, pushed the set button for one blink (not two) then the code 085 and then the rew scan button which originally is not assigned a signal. The remote blinks twice or so and now when I push the rev scan button, the led blinks like it is transmitting like the other functioning keys on the remote. I turn on the DVD Player (without a disc) wait for no disc to appear and I push the rev scan (085) button and nothing happens. I also tried pushing the the rev scan (085) button while the dvd player is turning on. I still get the original greenish screen that says Philips in the background with a no disc sign at the upper right corner.

I don`t want to flash the firmware without a way to set it back to the original firmware. How do I check the firmware version? I didn`t want to use any of the 159 codes because I don`t want to screw up the player. Is there a way to check what the current code is set in the player? Also what is SVCD on your chart? Also what is beeper? Are the 159 codes done with the original remote or the one4all? How do you undo the region hack after successfully changing it? Thanks for you help on this matter. As you can see, I`m a newbie at this and I`d like to know what I`m getting into before I try to change settings. That`s why I haven`t tried any of the 159 codes.

Also sorry for the long delay, I`m state side on the west coast. The DVD player is a US model that plays MP3`s and I`d like to retain that ability if possible. Thanks again!

Anyone Please help!! I think Philips removed the hack or atleast changed the way they go into service mode. The old way doesn`t work. The menu system is vertical as opposed to horizontal so I can`t use the old method to check firmware. Any words of advice?

Thanks!

You don`t have to program a key to enter the rc6 code....

once youare able to control the dvd using code 0539.....

then just press magic once followed by 085..the dashes on the display should appear...

let me know how you get on

Hi HaGGis!

After a while I kinda just gave up on this. So I hadn`t checked back in a while so sorry for the late reply. I tried the button press sequence like you suggested and nothing happens. I have a friend who borrowed my remote to use on his older Philips player to make sure the remote is the problem. He was able to hack his player which leads me to believe that Philips has finally removed the hack in their next gen players. The DVD-704 is a fairly new player here in the States. The menu display is quite different than what the older players have. The menu layout is now vertical vs horizontal so the trick to find the firmware version doesn`t work. If they changed this much I don`t know if they still made their players flashable. Any other ideas on what to do?

Pablo1 - it hasn`t worked for me. Any luck with your machine?

Anyone out there have experience with a brand new model of philips DVD player?

Thanks.
