The Region 1 511 firmware versions are not hackable. You`ll need to change your firmware for one from a different region (2, 3, 4, 5, or 6) in order to hack your player.

I am haveing the same prob with my 511 so any help will be gerat. When you say change your firmware do you mean chip the player ie solder the 12c508 chip on to the mother board or is there an easy way

No, I mean remove the 27c801 firmware EPROM (it`s socketed, so no soldering is required) and plug in an EPROM which is programmed with a firmware from a different region. Once your player is hacked, replace the original EPROM, and you`ll have a multi-region player.

"Chipping" (soldering in a "mod chip") is a different way of making your player multi-region - it`s a bit more difficult, as it requires soldering, and a mod chip will typically cost you more than a pre-programmed EPROM.

Thanx Mike... But tell me something should I Download firmware for the european version??? or Us/Canadian???? and which version 4.04 or 4.05???? for the 511/XAA??

European version 4.05 should work fine on a US 511. You may have to hack "blind", as the PAL output could cause your TV picture to "roll" such that you can`t see what is being displayed. Once hacked, however, you can replace your original firmware and you`ll have an all-region NTSC player.

You`ll need to find someone to program the firmware file onto a blank EPROM if you can`t do this yourself, but aside from that it should be plain sailing.
