Hack Help Forum
Hi there,
I have just bought a Wharfedale 750s from the Tesco.com web site, I have managed to do the remote hacks without using as many buttons as shown on this website. I also have some extra information which is all shown below: -
For Multi-Region Playback
1) Switch on your machine;
2) Open the CD tray;
3) Press the `A-B` button;
4) Press all of the your directional buttons (UP, DOWN, LEFT & RIGHT) It doesn`t matter in which order they are pressed;
5) You will then see `Region Free` flash on the screen for about a second.
NOTE: - There is no need to press the `Zoom` button as described on this web site(This comes later)
To Manually Change a Region
1) Switch on your machine;
2) Open the CD tray;
3) Press 1, 1, 1, 1 and then the number corresponding to the region of the disc;
4) You will see the number of the region you have chosen flash up in the top left corner of your screen;
5) Place the DVD disc into the CD tray and press the `Play` button.
NOTE: - I have only tried region 1 & 2 so far, so far it seems to work.
Reseting Your Wharfedale 750s To The Factory Defaults
1) Switch on your machine;
2) Open the CD tray;
3) Press the `Zoom` button;
4) Press all of the your directional buttons (UP, DOWN, LEFT & RIGHT) It doesn`t matter in which order they are pressed;
5) You will then see some letters and numbers flash up on the screen, in my case `ZR0616-15` flashed up (I think this could possibly be the revision number of the player or perhaps the firmware code);
6) The player will then turn itself off and then back on again with all of the original factory defaults restored.
I hope this makes it even easier for you people that view this web site, I view this web site on a regular basis and think it is very well designed and easy to use.
I also bought this player, the hacks worked fine
but being new to DVD`s I do not understand the constant remarks about RCE, what is this?
I also have a slight playing problem with "jumping " on R1 titles, this must have something to do with the playback, I have set the playback to R1using the drawer open and pressing "1" four times followed by "1" hack but the picture still looks better on R2 titles, can you help?
thank you
Hi there,
Thanks for replying and I`m glad I could help. Firstly, RCE. RCE is an abreviation for `Regional Coding Enhancement`, it is a new method created by the so-called film companies such as Universal, MGM and the likes. It is basically a small piece of code that is embedded onto the disc so as to try and combat people playing different region discs on their `fixed` (I use that term loosely, for obvious reasons!) DVD players. The first disc to incorporate this was `The Patriot`, I have this film and it works fine for me as well as all the extra features! Other discs may include
On the second subject, your R1 titles seem to be jittery. This is absolutely nothing to do with the hack, the multi-region hack has worked fine on all of my R1 & R2 titles(Even with `The Patriot` which has RCE). The only problem that might occur is if an RCE disc is being used, but using the manual hack for the regions should solve this.
The jittering is due to the discs being American/Canadian and giving an output in NTSC. The Wharfedales `AUTO` output mode doesn`t always work, so for nearly all the R1 DVD`s that I own I put it on to the NTSC setting. This can be done using the `TV System` button at the top of your remote until you have the correct setting of [NTSC].
I hope that this has helped you,

Ooops, I forgot to mention the other discs with RCE.
Thomas & The Magic Railroad(But I certainly won`t be buying that one...!)
There is another one that has been reported to have RCE, I can`t think of it at the moment but I`ll get back to you on that one.

RE: Wharfedale 750s Remote Hacks
Hi Caster
Unfortunately your Wharfedale 750 appears to be one of the early models that will not play The Patriot,
And I’m afraid the hack with the direction buttons and A-B method or the manual hack 1,1,1,1,1 will not work on your machine because these hacks are for the new Wharfedale 750S
Fear NOT.
There is a newer firmware chip available from www.dvdchips.co.uk that will fix The Patriot problem,
Or,
You could try what I did and that was to take my player back to Tosco’s (as it is still under warranty) and say I was having problems with it and asked if they could give me a replacement model.
I even managed to walk out the store with a new Wharfedale 750S and my copy of The Patriot plays fine...
Hope this is of some help.

RE: Wharfedale 750s Remote Hacks
Hi There Caster,
Unfortunately, RogerT is absolutely correct. The earlier version of the Wharfedale can`t handle most of the RCE encoded discs. As RogerT has described, you can get an updated firmware chip which you should be able to plug straight into your slot on the circuit board without invalidating your Warranty(in theory anyway!). The only thing is that they ask you to send in your old chip so that they can re-program it, as getting hold of the chips is quite difficult and it will provide someone else with an updated firmware chip.
As you have the older version of the Wharfedale the methods that I have provided will probably NOT work.
Hope this helps
Regards
Andy
