Oi! Haggis! Need yer help wiv a Philips......

Jimbo :oÞ (Elite Donator) posted this on Monday, 31st December 2001, 19:40

First off....I need the way to display the firmware revision.
Nothing in the manual, and can`t find anything anywhere online!

Second, (dvd-622 btw), I`ve been playing a bit with your codes.
PLAY 159 opens the dashes on the display, but nothing happens when any codes are entered except the first 11 are displayed on the front panel.

Oh, nothing that is, except the player completely locks up with those digits displayed!
Gotta power down by removing the plug from mains then reinserting.

Any ideas mate?

its best not to use the PLAY 159 codes....

you should really try the ONEFORAL hack....

if you go to the FAQs on my website...most of your questions are answered there..

to see what firmware version you have go here

Good site, and jeez...how easy is that firmware display?
Surprised I didn`t find it already!

Anyways, in reference to:
>"if you go to the FAQs on my website...most of your questions are answered there"

Been there, and the only thing is, there`s no mention of the locking up after the 12th digit.
also wierd that pressing "back" erases the last entered number, *until* play is pressed, so the player is recognising the coding.

Any ideas or info would be greatly appreciated mate, and before long, you could have internal 622 piccys if ya want them :o)
(after all, gotta update me site with the Philips now, but not `til the OFA hack is tried tonight ;o) )

and if ya don`t mind, matey, I`ll be putting up the hack too, wiv a credit to ya obviously ;o)

no sweat...

if you`ve been entering codes that aren`t designed for your firmware...you could have some problems....some codes do lock the machine....

what firmware does your machine show?

OK, here`s where I get a little confused........

if the first 3 digits are the revision number, then it`s 2.9.6...

however, if it`s the last 3 (furthest right), then it`s 5.1.14

Confused because every "firmware" I can find relates to version 5x and above?

Anyways, in about 2 hours I`ll know if the RC6 works, `cause I`m picking one up to test it :o)

right..the codes on my site aren`t for firmware 2.96..

they are for firmware 7.03, 7.25 and are model specific...

I do not have access to any of the newer models with firmwar that starts with 2.96

if you want...you can try to create a table similar to that on my site..for your firmware....

I thnk your gonna have to to do a bit of testing anyway...to make sure that all the functions of the player still work...

let me know how you get on

Seems to me you are to Prof. for Philips Hacks!
I bought Philips DVD 710 (Austria) and wanted to hack the multi Region code!
Wasnt easy to get ONEFORALL URC7560, so I bought URC7541!
Unfortunatly after all I read in the forums, I was n´t able to hack the DVD!
After entering 0539 and then pressing Magic and afterwards 085 nothing happend!
So is it the remote or something else1
The remote is designed to work with DVD (on the VCR Button??), but no chance to get the !----------! after all!
Would be great to hear soon from you,

many thanks

Okies, now we have definite confirmation of two things:

1) the RC6 hack works on this firmware and model
2) the NTSC to PAL conversion works, *without* RGB input if you set the menu on the player to "PAL" instead of NTSC/AUTO

However, the conversion isn`t perfect, it flickers a little :o/

I can try to create the table, but before I do, fancy trying to break down what each number does?
ie: is it only 1s and 2s etc?

Just dont wanna go in "hard and heavy" without the original reset codes, which I had for the LG`s and Aiwa`s :o)

But yeah, I`ll rip the bugger to shreds if I get the basis of what I`m doing <grin>

The codes are related to the second part of the firmware revision...

ideally..you would have made a note of the firmware before entering play 159 codes...so i`m afraid its going to be trial an error...

just work your way through the table on my site...noting what what effect each code has...

if you are worried about the original code...you can give Philips a ring..they will tell you it over the phone...just act dumb..

heres my e-mail address to make this easier..
