Studios Find Way To Defeat DVD Modification

Columbia TriStar Home Video has confirmed that it is using a program called Regional Coding Enhancement that will prevent its DVDs from being played on any player that has been modified to permit playback outside the disks` intended region, the online Inside magazine reported today (Friday). A spokesperson for Warner Bros. Home Video said that it is testing RCE, but added, "it`s not quite cut and dry whether we will be using it."

This was on imdb.com

Shouldn`t we be able to easily beat this even if it works by using the remote control hacks to just switch the player to whatever zone the disc is, so to just play that disc you turn your player back into a single zone player and then switch the region coding off otherwise for discs of a different zone or ones without this new protection?

RCE was a load of crap!

Not ALL players have tonked it, so hold your horses (eg Alba, Wharfey). To the original poster thanks for the "news" but we have spent the last 4 weeks devising cunning plans to work around it.

The simplest cure for remote hackable players is, as you say, revert it to just Region 1 rather than Region 0, Bypass or, what was it on the Mico - Region 13 ???!!!

I`m totally bamboozled by WHV`s about turn, seeing as they were the first to announce they were going for it. The first release was actually a Columbia number called "The Patriot". From what I understand, there are suddenly an upsurge in Mel Gibson coasters on coffee tables up and down the country....Best place for him, the Ozzy goon
