What is macrovision ? - Wharfedale 750
I have heard macrovision being mentioned in these forums but being new to the DVD world have no idea what it is !!! Can anyone offer me an explanation and is there a code to disable it on the Wharfedale 750. Excuse my stupidity !!
RE: What is macrovision ? - Wharfedale 750
Macrovision is a part of the system which is designed to stop people recording DVD`s to another source such as video or onto the computer - some DVd players can disable it or you can with an external box.
(I beleive the technical reason is that macrovision creates a harmonic frequenty which the VCR`s electronics are not sensative enough to distinquish - therefore it causes distortion)
I don`t know about hacks to be honest so someone else needs to answer that one !
RE: What is macrovision ? - Wharfedale 750
According to several people in this forum and others, there is no known way of disabling the macrovision of the Wharfedale 750 or 750s manually.
The only way apparently to disable the macrovision is by opening up your player (which will invalidate your warranty) and then by soldering a small circuit board to certain pins on the chip.
This Macro Mod is available from www.dvdchips.co.uk
If anybody does know of a way to disable the macrovision easily, then please let everyone know.
I’m sure a lot of people out there would want to know about it.

RogerT - yeah - as I said in my reply - buy an external box to do it - that beats macrovision on anything (dvd`s , vhs etc)
try www.maplin.co.uk or www.keene.co.uk - mine was about £50 from Keene and it works excellantly - they call it a video signal stabilizer - or a video copy box.
P.s. don`t try to get them to tell you that it will remove macrovision - they arn`t allowed to obviously
