Hack for Samsung DVDSV1E Combined DVD/Video

alec.p (Harmless) posted this on Friday, 18th January 2002, 12:56

Can anyone help me to get my multi-region settings on the Samsung DVD/Video player. I have tried the instructions from DVD Reviewer but can`t even get the first screen up.

Other than disconnecting the unit from the mains and then reconnecting I am not sure what a `Cold Start` means.

Also, I don`t know if it makes any difference to the process if you are connected to the TV through a cable STB.

Incidentally, my daughter has a standard Samsung DVD player and tried to hack hers with no success.

Any veteran Samsung hackers out there willing to help out a novice?

Thanks

if your DVD player is good, try this:

- Now press SUBTITLE on the remote.
- Type in the code which can be found elsewhere on this site that corresponds to the existing region of the player, i.e type 38767 for region 2 machines, then 02 will be displayed in the top left of the TV screen.
- Press 9 for region free.
- Press OPEN on the remote and wait for 15 seconds.
- Press STANDBY on the remote to turn the machine off.
-Turn the machine back on, either with the remote or on the player itself, put in a R1 disk and VOILA!!!!!! you now have, after weeks of trying, a multi region player.

Thanks

The player is new I received it this morning and I have just checked that the DVD is good.

I have followed the original instructions and these and got as far as the Samsung DVD screen then neither REPEAT (A-B) or SUBTITLE will bring anything up! Frustrating!

Any more tips?

I`ve just done mine and this is what I did.

1. switch on dvd remove disc and vcr tape, press the DVD button to ensure its set to DVD. Then press the TV/View button as many times as is required to show the Samsung DVD logo screen.

2. Switch off, switch on and check you are still on the Samsung logo screen, if not press the TV/View button until you get it. Wait until you get the "No Disc" message on screen and then press and hold the FF and Play/Pause buttons.

3. Press 1 for english, then press the SUBTITLE button not the REPEAT button listed in the hack instructions.

4. after that just follow the rest of the hack instructions and you should be ok.

Before trying the hack I tried some region 1 and region 2 discs, all the R2 played ok but the R1 discs gave me the wrong region screen.

After the hack all the discs played perfectly.

Good luck - I hope this helps.
