Hack Help Forum
When it comes down it, the new Philips 710 and other Philips models hack is quite easy. It is just a question of combinations that determine the settings for the player.
I have figured out quite a lot of the combinations for specific settings, but the list is quite extensive and to figure out every combination would literary take forever! You can contact me for a specific code for pre-determined settings without actually changing any of the settings after the hack, or you can sit down and try and figure it out yourself or just change the settings manually.
Anyway, here is the brief explantion of how the digits for the hack work: -
1) The first 3 digits correspond to the software mode of the player going from 0 0 1 - 0 2 5. The standard mode for the English Philips 710 is `P4` ie 0 0 4. You can find out which software mode yours is in by going into your setup and choosing the very last option `OSD Language`. If you press down one more time it should come up with the firmware version information, mine is `(c) PHILIPS`98-`99 9.23 000124 P(*)`
* = Software mode number (1 - 25)
The software modes are numerous because of different things, such as: -
More Languages
Larger Menu Text
Different Properties For Each Mode, with the likes of PBC, no Sound option, no Auto FTS etc.
2) The second set of 3 digits has several things that can be affected: -
Subtitle (Mainly from digit 4)
Type of DVD Player ie changing from a Philips to a Grundig or Micromedia Premier
Auto FTS On/Off [Usually digit 6(0 = Off 1 = On)]
3) The third set of digits relates to the OSD(On Screen Display), usually digit 9 and also affects the Audio Language
4) The fourth set affects the TV shape, Digital Out, Sound, Autoplay and the Parental Control. The first 2 digits affect the TV shape, Digital Out and Sound, mostly. Digit 12 affects the Parental Control usually, if it is a 0 the Parental Control will not be active and if it is a 1 then it will be active. It will not stop you from playing anything or changing anything as you can re-enter another hack or put in the code of 0 0 0 0 to disable it.
As you can tell there is quite a lot there, so providing all of the codes for regions, players and settings is quite a long task!
Hope this makes you understand the hack a little more and ENJOY the region 1 & 2 discs. There is a certain method for changing the region of the player which I will try and work out, you should in thoery be able to use any initial 3 digits ie 008 and then the rest of the region changing digits. I am also trying very hard to find hacks to all regions for this player and others as well as disabling macrovision for these machines and the Wharfedale.

RE: Philips 710 Hack Explanation
My player is DVD 730/002. Software was 97-98 2.17 P1
Then i changed to region1 -"play 247" --type"005000128156" then "play"
Its worked then i switched back( "002000128156"-everything is working.
but the soft(firm)ware changed to P.2
What the newest software for the 730/002 player, how i can get it,and
how are the instructions?
My problem (before changing the region code and still after)
Play a CD with DTS sound works-Dts get out on the digital output
Play a DVD with DTS(and DD)and select DTS (on the disc menu)there is
still DD output and no way to get DTS output.?!
Please help

Are you sure about this? I`ve read that players with P32 are able to play SVCDs (like asian machines do)
And there`s a way to enable this by entering a code (I don`t know what code...)
RE: Philips 710 Hack Explanation
I thought that Philips players could play SVCDs anyway?
RE: Philips 710 Hack Explanation
As far as I know, Philips players only play VideoCD 2.0
RE: Philips 710 Hack Explanation
My 711 plays SVCD`s very well. firmware revision7.03
