Aiwa has announced an upgraded DVD-player line that includes a unit capable of MP3-encoded CD playback and a compact transportable model.
The new AIWA XD-DV370 (shown right) is a full-featured DVD player with built-in MP3 decoding, allowing it to play MP-3-encoded CDs. As a result, MP3 music files can be dubbed undecoded onto a CD-R or CD-RW disc for playback on the XD-DV370. Other XD-DV370 features include a 96kHz/24-bit audio D/A converter; a 10-bit video D/A converter; a Dolby Digital/DTS digital output (offering both optical and coaxial connectors); dual stereo RCA outputs; and component, S-Video and composite video outputs. The XD-DV370 carries a suggested retail price of $300 USD.
The new AIWA XD-DV170 is a small, lightweight player that offers AC/DC operation and is compatible with DVDs, CDs, CD-R/RWs and VCDs. It includes a 96kHz/24-bit audio D/A converter and a 10-bit video D/A converter as well as Q Surround, to create surround-sound effects from two audio channels. The XD-DV 170 carries a suggested retail price of $350.

Thats the same report I read before buying the 370.
I also seem to remember an earlier posting from someone RETURNING a 170 because the region hack doesn`t work?

FIRST THE AIWA XD_DV 170 is not yet released. It will be in a couple of weeks. SO NOWBODY HAS REVIEWED IT YET AND CHECKed IT FOR HACKS. I will tell you if the aiwa 170 hack works when I RECEIVE MINE IN 2 WEEKS TIMe. If you direct me to a site where the review of not being able to play multiregion then I will cancel my order immeditely. Otherwise I AM WILLING TO RISK IT bearing in mind it looks its size and its specifications of playing CDR CDRW VCD etc.
