Where do i get PC DVD firmware?

skirpy (Elite) posted this on Thursday, 4th July 2002, 21:17

Hello, can anyone direct me to any sites that i could download firmware for my Samsung CDRW/DVD SM 308B.

My last PC i could use DVDgenie to make my PC DVD Player multiregion, but my new one cannot be software hacked and it has locked itself onto region 1.

Although most of my DVDs are Region 1 i would still like to play my other region DVDs on it.

I would appreciate some help.....Thanks!

go to http://perso.club-internet.fr/farzeno/firmware/

click on COMBO in the list on the lefthand side and scroll down until you get to the Samsung SM 308B. Simple as that :-), but flash at your own risk:-)

Dave

I`ve flashed the bios`s of 4 different Creative models without any problems. So long as the firmware is OK there shouldn`t (notice I say shouldn`t not won`t) be any problems. The bios`s are designed to be rewritable/upgradable and in most cases you will find that you are converting the drive back to what it was originally eg the Creative`s started out life, for example as Panasonics or Lite-ons before Creative overwrote the original firmware with their own. If you are very unlucky you could corrupt the bios as you overwrite it. In most cases you should be able to repeat the process or revert to the original firmware if it is available. However it is technically possible to fry a bios, though this is a very rare event, in which case your drive would be unsalvagable, which is why you are warned to do this at your own risk.

HTH,

Dave
