Page 1 of Does this knack your telly?

Silly question maybe, but when you flick through the cable channels on your widescreen telly and the picture "pings" in and out depending whether it`s an anomorphic or regular broadcast, does all this quick changing of picture format have an adverse affect on one`s telly? (If it does then it`s all my missus` fault cos I use the `guide` button to see what`s on!)
Thanks
I guess ONE should tell ONE`S misses that she has damaged the TV, & ONE needs a 50" Plasma screen to use it the way ONE want`s to.
Very helpful. Anyone else?
I`ve been flipping my Panasonic widescreen telly between normal and anamorphic channels everyday for just about two years now and it dosen`t seemed to have harmed it so far so I wouldn`t be too concerned.
If you`re anything like me as soon as the adverts start off you go again!
I have wondered the same thing, but then decided it was no different from the picture changing - it`s not changing resolution or anything (like a monitor might) - it`s just a different image being displayed.
I don`t know about knackering your TV but it seems to knacker SKY boxes....
I`m a terrible ` flicker ` ( ooh-err missus ) and my SKY box has spat the dummy.
I now can`t flick through the channels without the screen going blue at some point and " searching for listings " coming up, at which point it goes back to channel 999.
It`s fine if I use the channel guide.
My mother warned me flicking was harmful...........
Glad it`s not just my poxy sky box that does it!!! Piece of stinking POO!!!
Just to say: not all tvs "ping" when changing between regular and anamorphic pictures - my new Philips 6515 doesn`t make a sound (but my old Toshiba made quite a loud ping!!).
Mine IS a Toshiba and it DOES make a noise!
Can`t see how this is just the same as changing channels though :-)
your tv makes a NOISE when switching between aspect ratios? I`ve never heard of this before. I`ve had a Sony Wega for about three years and it`s silent.
