Sky Digibox set up

Choagy (Elite) posted this on Friday, 26th July 2002, 19:05

Evenin` all,
I`ve been trying ,unsuccessfully, to use my spare working digibox on a spare dish by pointing it to 28.2/19.2E/13E to receive some other digital channels , I preset the Frequency/FEC/Baud/Polarity to a known channels settings and then testing. The problems I keep experiencing are that I can get about 75% signal strength but 0% on signal quality. I also noticed that the Lock indicator is showing Unlocked rather than OK and am at a loss as to how I can change this to OK (I guess this might have something to do with the signal quality)
I am using new co-axial and new F-type connectors and have tried 2 different LNB`s. I know one of the LNB`s is a working extended/universal LNB that can receive a wider range of frequencies and that the other one is a working standard Analogue one. I have entered the Installers Set up menu ( Services/4/0-1 select) but still keep getting 0% quality. I`ve been using my hillwalking compass to align the dish (basic but it worked for my other dishes) but I`m not sure if the declination/elevation needs to be higher/lower. Any tips would be much appreciated.

Digital is different than other dishes. You will need a special gadget to lock onto the signal. You can ask your local installer to do it but he will charge you. Hope this helps

I used to install satellites. Digital is more or less the same as Analogue to set up. You just need a little more patience. Point the dish in the direction you think the satellite is. Now SLOWLY move left or right just a little, then go up & Down SLOWLY. Repeat the same until you get a good signal. Once you locate a satellite it will be easier to go left or right with slight up & down adjustments to pull in others. You have to go slow to allow the digibox time to gather the signal. I see in last months What satellite there is a free to air Digital receiver for only £130-00. I believe it has about 2000-channel capacity with a much larger frequency etc range than any digibox.

to make it a bit easier , press set up then 4 then go to signal test . you will see to bars witch should be fully grey but you will find that there are blue . but the dish in the best position possible , you may see some other dishes around you on other houses this will give a good idea of position , slacking the dish securing nuts so the dish can move if you tap it then very gentle tap it into position you will see how you are doing on the tv screen on the signal test.

Cheers Peeps. The wife got a helluva fright when she came home from the shops only to see me hanging out the bedroom window with a dish in my hand and the remote in the other. :)

I was assuming this was being done with the signal test by the earlier part of the post.
