Aiwa 370 - Discontinued? An inside view.

SteveK (Harmless) posted this on Sunday, 3rd December 2000, 21:08

I work as a Sales Assistant for Comet in North Wales. The Aiwa 370 is what is known as an `Active` item on our system and shows no evidence of being discontined - Will keep everyone informed if this situation changes.

The Aiwa 370 is on the top of my Christmas present list, so will let you know of my personal experience with the machine, when Santa arrives.(early I hope!!)

If I could go a little `Off-Topic` - Does anyone have any opinions on a wide screen TV I am thinking about buying - the Toshiba 28W93D? Has anyone had any problems with playing DVDs on this, or any other Toshiba TV? Many thanks, in advance, for any response.

I hope I don`t get any bad comments from unhappy Comet customers.(Is there such a thing!?!) I` m only one of the poor `grunts` on the shop floor.

Hi SteveK

I have had the Toshiba 28w93d and have nothing but praise for it, worked fine with my DVD players ( i have access to more than one). I only sold it to buy the Toshiba 43inch Back Projection and love it to bits. Go get the Tosh.

Steve, I work for a compettitor of yours (no names mentioned) but if you check when Comet started to stock the 370, it was very very recent.

"He who posted" that the Aiwa was discontinued was talking mince from his rear!
It`s a new player, as is the 170!!

However..if you work in the trade, you should know that Tosh picture and sound quality is amongst the best ont he market, and that Toshiba is one of the few companies trying to make widescreen look as it should, ie no bending of picture! (Sorry Dukey..Hitachi aint one of them!)

Try the Tosh on 4:3 mode, and then in 16:9 mode with your store`s Sky digibox "search and scan" banner. That should tell ya how good the picture is!

And if ya wanna look at the 370...oh oh...I feel a plug coming on.......

Take your own advice Jimbo and read the threads!
hed.co.uk informed me that the 370 was discontinued, which I could not believe, so I requested confirmation of my suspicions!

Got the 28W93D about a month ago from intersaver.co.uk and i am very happy with it. I work for powerhouse and i would say it is one of the best under £600 so go for it. Sound is great, and picture is good as well.
