SAVE HASSLE AND BUY A DECENT PLAYER!
Why does everyone seem to be complaining about having constant problems with their sub-200 quid cheapo DVD players?
Why not wait for a months or so and get a decent one with a reputable brand name ie. Sony, Panasonic etc. and save your selves the hassle?
Panasonic A100 is the dogs!
RE: SAVE HASSLE AND BUY A DECENT PLAYER!
Because none of the reputable names (bar Aiwa and one or two others) play MP3 discs, SVCD, multi-region (without chipping), macro off etc etc... If I could get a Sony that did all that I`d gladly pay £500 for it rather than an Encore/Scan/BloodyUnknownPieceOfSh*tBrand...
RE: SAVE HASSLE AND BUY A DECENT PLAYER!
I have a scan sc2000 it is from the December batch to replace the 4 week old one that I sent back, It was replaced with no hassle or expense to myself.
It is a superb player, The picture quality which was a problem on my last one is lovely and sharp, and very crisp and clear, The sound is also very good.
The price has no bearing on if something should work or not, It has to be of merchantable quality at any price by law. Even well known brands have problems take the Hitachi 505, also the main components inside the box come from a limited number of suppliers around the world, In other words a cheap player can have the same internals as a more expensive brand name.
Wake up and smell the coffee.

RE: SAVE HASSLE AND BUY A DECENT PLAYER!
Surely any consumer can expect that a DVD player, no matter what the cost, should do exactly what it says it can do, ie play DVDs. The fact that they have come down in price has more to do with the market place than a lowering in quality of components (although this will have some effect). I am not suggesting that a £180 player should be loaded to the hilt with features but I would expect it to do more than splutter when a DVD is inserted, after all, if you bought a lower end of the market car, you would still expect it to run and be reliable but wouldn`t necessarily expect it to have all the luxury extras.
Furthermore, most people would agree that the motor industry over charges for the cost of cars in the UK and similarly the electronics industry could be accused of the same practise. Have you ever asked yourself why some of the famous electronic brand names are still charging £300 plus for a DVD player in this country when they are cheaper overseas?
If all you want your DVD player to do is to simply play DVDs then I think a price tag under £200 is a reasonable price to pay, however, if you want it to scan, zoom, bookmark, make tea and answer the telephone then yes, I agree, you should pay a little bit more - but £300+, come off it!
I am off now to make my own cup off tea.

RE: SAVE HASSLE AND BUY A DECENT PLAYER!
Everyone is not complaining about having constant problems quite the oposit in fact.
A lot of people seem to be very happy with their sub 200 GBP players, obviously a few people have had problems and have posted asking for advice or compaining but this is hardly surprising as that is one of the main purposes of a forum like this.
The fact is that these compaints tend to stand out so you percive that everyone is unhappy.
Human nature I am afraid.
Cheers Vic
A happy owner of a sub 200 GBP DVD player.
