panasonic DMR E20 & PANASONIC DMR E30

hunsbury0 (Elite) posted this on Saturday, 7th September 2002, 23:52

I intend to copy my vhs tapes to dvd & transfer home videos from mini DV camcorder to disc.
Please inform me what the differences between the 2 models are & where to shop for the best deals for them.
Thanx in advance.

Problem!

The E20 comes with a DV input so would be good for you with the camcorder. Its a bit hard to find now and is about £700. It also has problems with cheaper DVD-R discs.

The E30 does not have a DV input so s-video quality is the best you will get with camcorder footage. Works with cheap DVD-R discs and is under £500

You maybe better with a Philips?

Thanks for the pointers.
www.121cdr.co.uk has refurbed E20 for £499.
Confused whether to go for E20 £499 ( with dv input)
or E30 £458- no dv input but will accept cheaper disc`s & use svhs to do back ups of comcorder dv.
I am led to believe that the built quality of panny is superior to Philips& the media for the philips is more expensive, so therefore I shall give phillips a miss.

I would suggest you have a good shop around for a E20 (for the DV input)
I have both Philips and Panasonic models. I originally stated that the Philips had the better picture, however I had to return my E20 because of pixellation and occasionally froze on recording.

My new machine is simply stunning, great picture, it records on anything
(bulqpaq/white top) etc, at 50p each ! Im very happy with it. If I had one minor gripe it is the titling function which is very slow.
Get one.

Happy Shopping

KK Electronics, Marble Arch, London has it for £459 (It`s a B&M store, but you can order by phone). I saw it on a website spin xxx.co.uk for £458. It was a link from another DMR-E30 post (they say they`re out of stock).

secondly it only has optical output my Lustful philips 9616 has a coax input! - Good excuse for you to buy a new one! or can`t you get a converter?
