Philips 28" 6515 TV any good ?

Bowf (Elite) posted this on Tuesday, 24th September 2002, 16:38

My mate fancies one but was concerned about the ` artifact ` problem associated with the 6006. I assume the 6515 is the same as the 6006 but with the addition of 3D sound ?
Anyone got one and how does it perform ?
Does it have the ` artifact ` problem ?
www.shopathills.co.uk are doing them for £439 incl P+P which seems like a real bargain unless anyone can advise different ?
Cheers for any info.

The 6515 is a flatscreen design unlike the 6006 which has a curved screen. The artefacting you mention was associated with the 6515 not the 6006 as you state. The 6515 is a fantastic TV if you can test it first and guarantee you don`t get a duff one, otherwise go for the more reliable 6006 or another make.

Like I said the 6006 should be fine.

On the 6515 however, a good test is to watch DVD Trailers (fast changes in contrast) or a film with harsh lightning effects (like the end of Blade or the bit where Tom Hanks is in the dingy after the crash in Cast Away). You should see picture break up in the middle 1/3 of the screen (black a white or red blocking)

Anyone know what causes these artifacts as i have had a 6515 for around a year and a half and it has just started to show this problem. Its really noticable on rapid changes of contrast especially the photo click effect they like using sometimes in programs. The TV is still on warranty and wondered is it a tube or a board fault?.
