Philips Q50 DVD setup help

GJD (Competent) posted this on Friday, 11th October 2002, 15:55

Connected up my new Philips Q50 last night. Initial impressions are very good but I wonder if anyone could help with a couple of setup queries (the onscreen menu`s are a bit fiddly!).

1. Couldn`t see an option to make the SCART output RGB. Is this automatic (presumably it detects SCART is being used automatically, but can the fact that it`s outputting in RGB be toggled on or off?)

2. Haven`t got by Dolby Digital System yet so I`m using shoddy old stereo Nicam sound on the TV. Have seen "TruSurround" as well as "Stereo" in the DVD options. I presume this is a faux surround sound effect to give the impression of surround on a Nicam TV. Is this so? Is it any good? Am I better sticking with "Stereo" for now?

Any help much appreciated!

Greg

Greg,

No help to you but I`m thinking of buying the Q40 and was wondering if it would be worth going for the Q50 instead? Any reason you chose the Q50 over the Q40?

Also, have you got the multi-region hack to work?

Thanks,
Ross.

Hi Ross

I had a dilemma over the Q40 or Q50 too. Plumped for the more expensive player after comparing the specs. The Q50 seems a bit more "mid-range" spec wise. Alos my Q50 was the last one in stock at Unbeatable for £239, which seemed like a good deal for a player that started out at £399.

It looks the business, by the way (although so does the Q40!)..
