ENCORE 450 - Please help

bjs (Harmless) posted this on Monday, 11th December 2000, 11:30

I`m pleased to say that I`ve just acquired an Encore 450 but am embarrassed to say that I`m having difficulty setting it up for optimum results.
It`s connected to a Mitsibushi CT-28BW2BD - 28" wide screen.
I`ve connected it with a scart lead to the AV1 scart which has inputs of Audio, composite and RGB.
What should I set the Video Output to on the DVD?
What should the Scart out settings be?
Do I need to change the speaker settings if I am playing the sound through the TV which has a centre and 2 internal left and right speakers?
I hope to add surround sound speakers soon.
Finally I can`t get it to play an MP3 coded disk at all. Could you please explain what settings I need to make to make it play or is there a fault on the player.
Finally, finally, while I`m in dumb mode could you please explain what one does with the optical output. I`ve never come across it before?
Thanks in desperation.

Set the Video Output to on the DVD to RGB (best)
Scart out bitstream
Don`t change the speaker setting, not neccesary on TV speakers

It will only play MP3`s of a certain format - see the handbook. It doesn`t seem to like folders on mine.

Optical output is to connect the DVD to an amp with an optical connector. Its beter quality than using all those audio out at the back.
if you get a home cinema amp with an optical input - use this. Don`t worry about it at the moment though.

emmak - have you got a scanner ? Seems like they`ve updated the manual since I got mine in May - just the pages about MP3 would be fine.

Just to clarify emmak`s points :

On the General Set Up Menu, go down to :

VIDEO OUT and select SCART

and go down to
SCART OUT and select RGB

If you`ve got the luvly 450 attached to the telly and no amp, you`ll need to set the AUDIO OUTPUT to ANALOGUE too, otherwise you`ll get silence !!!

Only use DIGITAL when connecting to a Dolby Digital/DTS amp via either an optical or coaxial digital cable (I favour the latter, but there`s not a lot in it)

If you need any other set up tips either leave a message here or at http://pub37.ezboard.com/btheencorefiles

Cheers, Clayts

Thanks to you all I`m now up and running - except for MP3

The only referenece to MP3 in my manual is:

This unit supports 128Kbps/44.1KHz MP3 disc formatted to ISO9660 CD-ROM mode 1 file type.

It sounds very tekkie!!!

Thanks guys. I`m impresssed with the power of the forum.
