Wharedale 750s Keep or Return?

orac (Competent) posted this on Thursday, 21st December 2000, 09:01

Roll up Roll up

The Wharefy cost £180.

So what do you suggest I do, keep it or get something else - with the same amount of money.

The disk problems are the main concern and I want it as a cd player as well and I am not overally impressed with its capability of this.

I await your recommendations!

If you have a Second generation 750s with the Zoran Vaddis 3 Chipset then you should be able to to do some good things with it. As for playing CDs you need an amp & speakers of some sort to power the output because the unit connected to a Dolby Pro Logic TV ain`t up to much but the 750s will play VCD an HDCD so thats something else to think about.

The only draw back of the 750s is that you will need an Inline Converter Box to connect your DvD 750s to a VCR Direct and get a clear picture.

But the Scan SC2000 has a Macrovison Disable feature if you get the right firmware update (180, 193 or 204s) however the 180 gave me macrovision disabled with perfect results through a Toshiba V705b VCR based on an update stright from the factory installed firmware 164 to 180.

I have just updated to 204s from 180 but the macrovision seems to have been enabled again but I`m working it out right now so keep an eye on the forum for my results.

The Scan SC2000 also has MP3 direct from CD playback but I`ve not tried it yet. But at £175 inc VAT you can`t really go wrong if you like to play around with hacking your DVD units and the same goe`s for the Wharfedale 750s (not tried MP3 yet on the 750s).

Hope this info helps you do what you wanna do to make yourself happy?

May I recommend the Samsung 511? So far, it`s blowing my old 750s away (not sure yet what it`s like with CDs though). Can I also refer you to my latest posting regarding 750 brightness problems? Make sure this doesn`t apply to yours, but if it does, at least you have a very valid reason for a refund. Incidentally, 511s are £20 cheaper from ETS than from Currys - AND they`re not a bunch of c**ts in there. At least not in my branch anyways!

OK

Whats CTS?

And is the samsung 511 hackable to multiregion easily like the 750s?

My 750s has no problems with brightness.

AFTER READING A FEW BAD REPORTS ABOUT TECHTRONICS, I DECIDED TO GAMBLE ON `LINKONLINE` (www.linkonline.co.uk).
I RETURNED MY WOOF 750s TO TESCO AT 15.00, I ORDERED THE PIONEER OVER THE PHONE (HELPFUL STAFF) AT 16.00 (MON 18th) RECEIVED IT ON WED 20th 12.00. THEY INCLUDE THE PARAGON MULTIMOD INSTRUCTIONS, VERY EASY TO UNDERSTAND.
COST - £209 + £12 1st CLASS DELIVERY. VERY PLEASED WITH IT, EXCELLENT PICTURE, STUNNING SOUND, LOOKS EXPENSIVE & MOST IMPORTANT OF ALL IT PLAYS EVERYTHING I HAVE R1 & R2.
