Connecting Philips 890 DVD Recorder to a PC

Metaphysical (Mostly Harmless) posted this on Friday, 13th December 2002, 22:25

Does anyone know if it is possible to connect a PC to the Philips DVDR890 using the i-link socket on the front of the 890 and a Firewire socket on the PC. For recording PC edited film or pictures onto DVD.

Or does anyone know where I can find some information about doing this?

I have not tried this, but my sony camcorder which is Micro mv and not Mini dv tape ,won`t work. When I spoke to Philips they said ilink only works with dv camcorders if you connect anything else it does not recognise that an appliance is connected.

I`ve got a DV camcorder and an 890 and its works fine. Apparently the MICRO MV is MPEG 2 encoded or something and is incompatible with the ilink in!! I raead about this on www.dvdplusrw.org
