PIONEER DV 350 OR PIONEER DV 454??

zak1981 (Mostly Harmless) posted this on Saturday, 14th December 2002, 15:24

Hi all!!!

I am in the process of deciding which first time DVD player to buy..

I have found out that I can get the Pioneer DV 350 for £96 or the Pioneer DV 454 for £112.

I want to minimise costs and will only spend more than £100 if it is REALLY special!

Is the Pioneer DV 454 worth the extra or should I go for the DV 350??
How old is the DV 454 anyway?? And did it win any awards??

Any other suggestions for £100 and comparable to Pioneer DV 350 welcome (have decided to exclude Tosh 220!)

Cheers!

The only difference is that the 454 has optical digital output and is a bit better looking physically.

Where did you find the 454 for £112? Is it multiregion?

Hi Andy!
Thanks for the reply......the prices I gave are actually using a price beat scheme from a hifi retailer who claims to beat any better price by £10.I saw the 454 (multiregion) for £122 on empiredirect and so am assuming that i can get it for £112 from the other retailer (they claim to beat any internet or store price).
I actually need to have it confirmed by them and am waiting for their email, email me if you need to anarykaz...wonk[at]moc.liamtoh

Are you sure about the price on empiredirect - it`s shows the multiregion 454 at £164.09 and multiregion 350 at £148.02. I think that the prices you`ve found are for the standard region 2 models.

Yup you`re right!!!! My stupid mistake .....that`s what you get after lookingn at a million sites for the same product!!!
I was confusing it with another site I saw.....empire doesnt specify that the £106 one is region 2!
The good news is that empire claim to refund 120% of any difference between it and a cheaper price!! Richer Sounds is the cheapest DV 350 multiregion I can find....£114.95...so empire should give back around £40 refund....so that makes theirs around £107..

But the retailer I mentioned in my first post will give £10 off cheapest price elsewhere, so they will do it for £104.95 probably against Richer Sounds.....still not bad is it?? Needs to be confirmed though.

The moral is : always check for the best price beat schemes FOR YOUR PARTICULAR PURCHASE before buying!! Some have conditions but others are better such as empire...and always seek out the cheapest price elsewhere to beat!

I`m new to Dvd but I might even be tempted to try and get a price beat on region 2 Dv 350 and use a remote hack???? This would get a multiregion Dv350 for perhaps under a hundred as I had hoped earlier Or is this too risky?? Also, not many places do region 2 players anymore....very limited stock as I understand.

comments welcome!
