ENCORE 450 - NO LONGER A TOASTER !!!

clayts (Elite) posted this on Thursday, 21st December 2000, 23:17

Thanks to Chris W on the hack help forum for the missing piece of the jigsaw on the Encore 450 - a macrovision remote hack !!! Woo-hoo !!!

In my last seven months of owning this award-winning player I have found little improvements over a period of time have made this a fully-rounded player once and for all.

When I first got it and hooked it up to my crap rented Sanyo widescreen I was so impressed with the sound I ditched my tried and trusted Harman-Kardon ProLogic amp for the Yammy A5 - then the sound totally blew me away.

The picture was never fantastic but only a few weeks ago I found the manual to my crap rented TV down the back of the sofa (where else?) and discovered, shock horror, that the Sanny had an RGB-compatible SCART socket (what a goon for not even thinking of trying this before).

Changing the cables around (RGB is s***e on OnDigital) at the back I suddenly had the most stunning of stunning pictures from the 450.

Coupled with multi-region (not region bypass, but the ability to select Regions 1,2,3,4,5 or 6) and now a new macrovision remote hack (it`s SET UP and 590419 - BIG HAND to Chris for that), coupled with VCD, SVCD, CD-R, CD-RW and MP3 playback my player has gone from strength to strength this year.

There are a few problem discs out there, but I`m convinced these are software and not hardware problems.

All in all, the 450 has for me thoroughly deserved its magazine awards for best budget player 2000. Supported by a refreshingly honest company (http://www.encoredirect.co.uk - they sell cheap discs too, and at 5% off list prices til 2.1.01), this player has received criticism from all quarters, esp. those with recognised manufacturers` machines (Sony, Pioneer, Hitachi, et al).

My 2000 will be remembered for taking the plunge with untested DVD player and home cinema amp, and coming up with a fantastic package, supplemented by a thunderous sub and dinky speakers (my credit cards are quaking in their boots - yup decent speakers next!)

I`d like to thank everyone who`s conversed with, criticised, helped, supported and most of all entertained me on this site. I truly am in lurve with the DVD format, and my special player.

Gawd bless you all !

The Aiwa gets my thumbs up as the Budget Player of the Year Elect - Jimbo : find that macro hack and I`ll go quietly !!!!

Yeah tried it and the picture`s fine mate - try swapping the disc !!!!

Alternatively remember that the film was released over 25 years ago and has only had a slight cosmetic job done on it - apparently if you take it back to WH Smiths they give you a free Moon On A Stick....

I am on my 3rd Exorist dvd and my 2nd DV 450 player and I still have
very poor picture quality on dark scenes on all films.

Maybe you would swap mine for yours if it is so good then.

Well you do insist on plugging it into a Bush 14" black and white portable telly, mate... Oh, sorry, that`s me....

Seriously, I`m surprised your piccies that bad. Have you had any probs with other discs, or is it just The Exorcist ?

I wasn`t trying to be funny - it is an old film so don`t expect perfection on it.

Have you got it set to RGB mode or S-VID ? Is your telly up to speed ?
And just how much is lard these days. In my day it was rationed you know....

I have same problem on all disks.
on the films that are dark like exorcist the picture pulses in the background.
on films that are bright and have say outdoor settings the picture is fine
but when it changes to a dark scene the pulsing starts again.

RGB is set on and my tv is RGB compatable using a IXOS scart cable.
same using S-VID though scart or S-VID DIN .

the tech guys at encore don`t know why, but using my freinds proline
1000 on the same setup there is no pulsing.

Anybody hear "MACROVISION" here as well as me??

Try the Macro hack, a few TV`s can pick up the macro signal, and cause "pulsing" especially projectors.

I`ve been reading into Macro on the web, and from what you`ve posted, it sounds like one of a very few TV`s that can pick it up.
And is it connected directly to the TV or through an amp/vcr/other device?

AIWA 370 (officially) ROCKS!!!!!!!!
(and the pins are being desoldered one by one Clayts..if it`s there...I`ll find it!!)

Allready tried the Macrovision hack and it makes no difference if on or
off.
This is my 2nd player from encore.

I think after getting the Home Entertainment award they have rushed then
out a bit quick because of demand, or a bad batch.
