Canon Digital Camera advice wanted

Richard Richards (Competent) posted this on Saturday, 28th December 2002, 19:34

I`ve been after a Digital Camera for quite a while and have narrowed it down to one of the Canon Digital Ixus ones.
Basically because they`re small, cute, well made, and seem to work well from reviews I`ve read.
Ive been offered my Uncle`s old Canon Ixus V for £150 including a 32mb card and leather case.
However, Argos have the Ixus v2 for £200 (although out of stock).I`ve found it for the same price at www.internetcamerasdirect.co.uk Jessops have cases for £12+ and a 32mb compact flash is £12 (7dayshop.com)

The other half reckons I should buy the v2 because it`ll come with full warrenty, but I don`t normally listen to her. You guys though, I do...

1. Does anyone know the difference between the 2? The best I can find is the V has a bigger digital zoom (which I read somewhere is crap), the optical zoom is the same on both models.

2. Which should I buy? Im inclined to save £74+ and buy the V which gets me a better digital zoom . However in the back of my mind I think...warrenty. Has anyone had any problems with their Canon Ixus?

Any help would be appreciated, thanks
RR

For the sake of £70 I would get the new one, mainly for the warrenty but there will be subtle changes and improvements mainly with battery life and firmware. Digital zoom is no real use only optical so you loose nothing there and you should get the 64 Meg card for £17.

If you go to Jessops with the info you have they will try to pricematch.

Hi Richard, I have just bought the IXUS V2 from Comet. I had originally reserved the camera from the Argos website to be collected from their Lakeside (Essex) branch. The price was £199.99 but I knew that Comet would beat the price using their 10% of the difference pledge. The upshot was that I got the camera for £190 after a heated discussion with the Manager. I have only had the camera a few days but my initial reaction is that it is a great piece of kit.
Couple of questions regarding Compact Flash. I am looking for the cheapest price for Compact Flash cards, £17 for 64MB sounds really good, 1) does this include P&P, if not how much. 2)
where did you see this price?

Thanks Terry

UPDATE - just ordered a 64MB Compact Flash module from 7dayshop for £17.40 inc P&P. Thanks Guys.
