What is the best bit of kit that anyone has found for cleaning out the important bits of a dvd player?

What do you actually want to clean and why?

Well I think that I need to clean the laser as a couple of DVD`s in the last couple of days have been a little blocked up, and yes it is not the discs themselves at fault.

You can`t beat air-in-a-can for such jobs, and it means not touching anything live or expensive !

I have had good results with the bog standard laser cleaning disk from Smiths. Disc errors - play cleaning disk - no disk errors. Especially useful if your kids have learned how to operate the DVD player!

Can I use a CD Lens Cleaner which I use to clean my CD player, on a DVD player?

The only thing I can add is that you should not use any solvents or alcohol on the lens, the solution that comes with the cleaner should be ok but if you don`t have any just use clean water. The CD lens cleaner should be ok in the DVD player but you need to decide if it`s worth it for a few £`s to get the DVD version.

Just a note to anyone deciding to use air-in-a-can to clean their machine/laser. Compressed air contains condensation and we all know what happens when water contaminates electronic components...frrrraaaaazzzle, new player here please!! Make sure it`s unplugged and use the stuff sparingly.

Don`t know where you get your "air-in-a-can" but the stuff we use at work always seams to be dry and is sold as such because you can use it on cameras as well.

Cleaning a camera lens and cleaning a DVD player hardly constitute the same thing. Just be careful is all I say.
