Knackered my Wharfedale M5..Help!

bazh (Harmless) posted this on Monday, 3rd February 2003, 01:41

I downloaded the VCR friendly hack for my Wharfedale M5 from the excellent area 450 site.I burned it on to a cd-rw following the instructions provided. When I inserted the cd in my machine, all seemed to be going well until the message "Failed" appeared on the screen. Shortly after that, the machine shut down. There are no lights showing, no display appearing and neither the remote control nor the controls on the front panel of the machine work. The machine was running firmware version 2.0. What can I do? I would appreciate any suggestions. Many thanks.

Just to clarify (before my website, Area 450, gets into hot water), the unofficial VCR friendly version of the M5 firmware is NOT on our site, although we do point you to a website where it is available ;-) (Just to keep the lawyers happy !).

Have you reported this fault on the Area 450 Forums ? It`s probably easier for me to reply there, as everyone from the `450 team can chip in.

Regrettably it sounds as if you`ve trashed the EEPROM, and you`ll require an external reprogram.

Yes, that`s what I suspected. Many thanks for your reply and apologies for my misleading statement. I will take your advice and contact Area 450 forum.
