Scan SC2000 good for DVD playback, only a few glitches :
As you know I received my SC2000 DVD player. I gave some comments about the MP3 playback, now let`s get down to the DVD playback :
The picture quality is really ok for the price. I am really picky and I can say that it is good. Not perfect, but good.
The sound is fair as well.
The multiregion trick worked perfectly with my two Disney Region 1 DVDs. It played also my Region 2 discs without problems afterwards.
However I have the following problems :
- The sound volume from the Scart is really too quiet. I found a trick on this site to make it louder by pressing a few keys on the remote. It works but it looks like one needs to do the trick every time the player is restarted. Moreover the loudness is still too low.
- The brightness of the RGB output for movies seems too high as well. Black backgrounds are not really dark. I had to cranck up the contrast of my TV quite a bit to have a good picture. I don`t have this problem with my Cable decoder.
- While playing Fantasia 2000 Region 2, during the "Pump and Circumstances" chapter, the sound was interrupted briefly a few times. I went back to the moments where it happened and it happened again, not exactly at the same moment. I turned the machine off and tried again, it happened again.
Some firmware enhancements may solve these problems. I already heard of the two first ones, maybe they are already fixed ? I don`t knw exactly which version I have, but in the secret menu I see that I have the firmware 2514 .
RE: Scan SC2000 good for DVD playback, only a few glitches :
Well, I upgraded to the latest firmware which is 204s.
The sound loudness problem is gone. Good.
The brightness problem is gone. Good.
But I have still sound pauses in Fantasia 2000. Not good.
Do someone else have the same problems while watching this movie ? IT happens in "Pump and Circonstances" (Chapter 14) and in "The firebird" (chapter 16, between 00h58:10 and 00h58:20). It does hot happen every time, but if I repeat the sequence twice with the A-B function I am quite sure it will happen.

It´s possible that these DVDs are dual-layer and when the layer changes depending on the unit the picture freezes for a moment (less than 0.5 secs)

Is it possible to have several layer changes in the same disc ? As I said I have this problem in two parts of the movie.

Picture quality is good , so is sound.
MP3 playback is excellent.
Bad points you have a 1 in 20 chance of getting a duff machine ( by nelly own admission )
