Panasonic Satellite Box & Philips MX980 Home Cinema Amp

Afternoon. I wonder if you can help me please?

I have a Panasonic digibox (not sure if it`s the DSB35 or DSB45).

Anyway, it`s wired up to a Philips MX 980 home cinema amplifier via the 2 `audio out` connections on the digibox. When i switch the home cinema system on, it tells me on the LCD that the signal is being received in analogue.

I have looked on the back of the digibox and there is no outward digital connection.

Is this correct?

Yes, the signal is received digitally, however this is converted into analogue by the digibox so that your TV can recognise it.

The separate audio connections are standard analogue outputs.

I let my mind wander....and it didn`t come back.

Thanks for the reply Adam.

I take it makes no difference if the TV is digital?
I have an integrated Philips digital TV (not that i use it for digital as we have a crap reception, hence the digibox).

Also, if the sound WERE digital, would i notice any difference?

It just seems strange that i have all these inputs on my amplifier (coax, s-video, video, audio, etc) and yet the sound being reproduced is `analogue`.

Maybe i`m being a bit too fussy!

If your digital reception was good then you could probably output a digital audio signal drom the TV to your amp (assuming the TV has a digi-out connection)

If we`re being honest here, true sound is analogue. It`s made up of waves not 1`s and 0`s and our ears are not digital. It`s true that your amp could probably make a better effort of the digi-to-analogue conversion than the digibox but as long as you are using decent connectors between the units, your sound quality will not be too seriously affected given your setup.

I`ll make do with the setup i`ve got.

Thanks for your help Adam, much appreciated.
