Page 1 of Home cinema speakers advice please

I think this is probably my first techy question! I have been sorely tempted to buy an A/V Receiver from the Richer Sounds clearance sale this Sunday (see the bargain buckets forum). Always wanted one, and my local branch has a Sony STRDB940 going for £150. This would seem to suit me just fine, as I have a Sony KV28LS36 TV, a Sony video, and a PS2 which I use for DVD playback. (I also have a Gamecube!) Only problem seems to be it doesn`t have Pro Logic 2, anyone offer an opinion as to whether I`ll miss this?

Main question is that of course, I will require some speakers!! Now, I only have a small front room, the layout isn`t optimised for surround sound, and the missus is very anti-speakers. I`m going to have a hard time convincing her to let me put surround sound in, so I need to find some small, "cute" speakers that won`t break the bank! Performance at high volume isn`t an issue since I live in a terraced house and don`t tend to crank up the volume anyway.

So, can anyone recommend any stylish, small home cinema speakers, on a budget of £100 or less? Failing that, I guess I could just run it through our 2 Sony hi-fi speakers until I can afford a decent set..? Any advice gratefully accepted!

DPL2 is nice for TV, much better than standard DPL. It`s pretty good for stereo music too.

I`ve got the Yamaha HTiB-45 which gives all the formats and includes speakers for around £300. Sounds fine to me.

Personally I`d go for a receiver that handles all the formats you want. Get basic speakers that can be upgraded later. That`s what I intend to do.

I`m wary of some of these sales as you can end up compromising to save a few quid.

I highly reccomend an amp with DPL2 - the diffrence is amazing. And is full supported by your gamecube too.

I agree with Steve - focus on an amp first then get some speakers at a later date (or some real cheapies as `patch` speakers`).

An amp with DPL2 and a 5.1 input will keep you happy for years to come.
