I have just received my February issue of "What Video & TV" today. There are a few reviews of DVD players mentioned in this forum.

Aiwa XD-DV370 - "Reasonable performance, attractive styling and added extras make this a great-value player" 8/10

Hitachi DV-P505E - "Some of the worst DVD pictures We`ve ever seen make this a total non-starter" 5/10
Suck on that IronDuke, You could always part-ex for a Mico? They might give you 10p if your lucky!!

Revoy 2200 - I mentioned this one before as it has the same case as the Mico. They say the picture quality is good but the audio and handset are crap and the RGB output is wired wrong so it will not auto-switch your TV.

Sanyo DVD-1500 - "Smart looks, compact size and powerful picture performance make this player a midi-marvel" 9/10
I have not seen this one before but it looks good at £250. Anyone got one?

There are also some mentions of the Mico and how good it is!!

I have seen several reviews that say the 505 is very good I have also see 2 or 3 reviews that say the mico is pants!

There is also an article about the faulty Mpeg decoder chip that is in the Hitachi, Manhattan and Smart DVD players!

They go on to say they have spoken to Hitachi who say that it agrees that the players pictures leave a lot to be desired, it doesn`t believe they are bad enough to constitute an actual fault, so have no intention of providing a refund.

Can we have some replies as to what Ironpuck can do with his Hitachi?? And keep it clean, we don`t want to get down to his level

I did try to e-mail this review to Jimbo, but my scanner went tits-up unfortunately, but here goes...

"For the Aiwa to succeed it has to perform well rather than edge ahead on features. And that`s where the problems start. With the visual wizadry of `Deep Impact` the picture fails to produce the sort of detail and resolution now expected (of a budget player). The definition of shapes isn`t as precise as we`d like, and colours are a little unnatural: skin tones, always hard to do well, look artificial.

"The story doesn`t improve with sound either, as explosions lack dynamics, and the level of clarity is nothing special. Only with CDs does the Aiwa mildly impress. It`s cohesive enough to make listening to Wyclef Jean`s `Dial 911` enjoyable, and it delivers a fair amount of insight in the midrange. While CD replay isn`t superb, by the standards of DVD players at the price it does well.

"This is not a great machine, and the difficult to use remote only strengthens the case against it. Other models out there do things so much better."
