i have a techtronics tosh 110 into a techtronics panasonic e50 with a ktvision powered scart it makes perfect rgb copies of pal discs but when i try ntsc discs i get nothing but fuzz, when in standby mode ntsc discs loop through to tv no problem, where am i going wrong or can`t it be done with ntsc discs or do i need a pal 60 50 player?
If ktvision are the SCARTS that remove all copy protection, then it seems the only answer is your Panny will not record NTSC.Easiest option is to spend £60 in Tescos and get a Dansai which does a full NTSC-PAL conversion. The Philips+R recorders do record NTSC,despite some of the reviews. If you do not want to go as down market as Dansai, some JVC players now do PAL50.Make sure you do not get a PAL60 output,as your recorder will not record that either.Your recorder manual may not mention NTSC recording. One other possible,is your Tosh set to Auto on the picture output?Or is it sending out PAL60.One of my players is a Tosh, and it does not offer PAL 50 or 60.Yours may be different
u need a player thats ouputs pal 50 from a ntsc dvd which is pal 60 some players do it automatically some u choose via remote i have a decca connected to my e50 which is alllready macro disabled and outputs pal 50 from a region1 dvd
From the review I read it says "PAL/NTSC recording and playback" so I think it should record an NTSC disc.
The problem you may be having is the DVD player is outputing the NTSC disc as PAL 60 as people have said. What may work is if you set the Player to output NTSC as NTSC.
This maybe a switch on the back or in your video ouput settings in the menu.
RE: panasonic e50 ntsc problem
hi folks, on the toshiba there is only a choice of pal or auto so it should be outputing ntsc as pure ntsc, can anybody confirm this on the toshiba 110, or can anybody recommend a good player that works with the panny without having to go down the ntsc to pal 50 route.
RE: panasonic e50 ntsc problem
the toshiba can definatly only output ntsc from an ntsc disc, however the panny "should" be able to accept this (acording to the manual) if you want i`ll try it for you tommorow and let you know, but to be honest you`ll solve a lot of your problems if you get a dansai machine from tesco as they are cracking machines

It would seem that one of your pieces of equipment is faulty,or maybe a menu is set wrongly. Is there an option on the recorder to change to NTSC recording, maybe its not automatic.
From what other people have written your system should be working, but NTSC discs carry an additional copy protection measure called COLOURSTRIPE,which is not found on PAL discs.
I had a £400 digital standards converter from Lektropack, and I can tell you that the PAL conversion from the Dansai is superior by a mile, breathtaking. In all honesty you would be pushed to tell an NTSC disc was not a PAL one.
What do KTvision say?
RE: panasonic e50 ntsc problem
ktv did all their tests on a panny e30 with various machines including toshibas without problems, they said to try another machine first and get back in touch, what is the model of the DANSAI just in case, if you can try your tosh with the e50 that would be cool, what about the tosh 420 and the jvc xvn33s which do pal50 conversions and what do these conversions look like, is there any slowdown or jerking, smearing or have things improved.
Any of the Dansais will do.You may notice slightly jerky movement on something like a very fast pan across the screen, but as I said,my £400 converter was vastly inferior.I should imagine there would be some small side effects on conversions in any machine. After all,if you watch a broadcast show from the US,there is even small things like that on network tv,so similar things in sub £100 dvd players is not too drastic. You could always get a Philips recorder, they record NTSC no problem.
RE: panasonic e50 ntsc problem
i have to agree, the casual user would never be able to tell it`s been converted, models to try are any dansai, p&b, arianet (same as p&b) and most pacific models from asda (however i had problems with the quality of conversion on the old 750 model)
