Put DVD in. Flash. Bang. Player dead. Change plug fuse. Open up and, a ha!, a tiny fuse on one of the circuit boards has burn out.
1. Has this happened to anyone else?
2. Where can I get a mini-fuse from? B&Q?
3. How do you get the DVD out when there is no power?
the m5 has a dvd-rom drive just take it out and plug it in to your computer and press ejected
plug it in where? At the back or do I need to open the PC up?
RE: WHARFEDALE M5 BLEW UP
if it`s a standard glass fuse check the rating and go to your nearest tandy/radio shack etc and get a new one (slow burn if poss) should be less than £1
I AM NOT A LEMON, I AM A CABBAGE.
you will need to open the pc up, but if you said FLASH AND BANG occured something must have gone inside the player, psu section, that has caused the fuse to blow, dont hold your breath that it will work again!
Saxton
Thanks guys, have got the dvd out, so that`s something.
Saxton, I assumed that the flash and the bang came from the fuse, when it blew? I can`t see any evidence of any other part being visibly damaged. I guess I`ll just have to get a replacement fuse and see what happens.
UPDATE:
Have replaced the mini fuse and plug fuse. The mini gets blown straight away. I`ve replaced it three times with the same result.
I think it`s scrap but if anyone has any sincere advice then please post it.
Sadly, it sounds as if the PSU has shot it - this can occur in older Sampo players.
I can probably salvage at least some of the parts from the processor board - don`t chuck it out - I`d be willing to pay you say a tenner plus postage for it ? Talk to me at styalc[at]moc.054aera

it will possibly be repairable

Saxton, can you recommend somewhere where it could be fixed? Do Maplin do repairs? Or would a bog-standard electrician be able to do it?
