Lord of the Rings & my Eclipse 695

Gregisgreek (Harmless) posted this on Tuesday, 26th August 2003, 21:24

Hiya,

just bought my new copy of Lord of the Rings, and I am having problems getting it up and running on my Eclipse 695 DVD player. The copies I have work on my PC, but not on my old faithful.

When I put it in to play it (!) the copyright warning is played, and then the disk just freezes and hangs.

Have you come across anybody else with similar problems, as I have now taken it back to the shop 3 times, and they are getting a bit annoyed with me.

Thanks

Greg

Greg.......

Have exactly the same problem with this DVD on my Lecson 900. Have contacted the helpline for Debenhams where I purchased it a couple of years ago and was told ` The DVD is too new for the machines software (which needless to say is not upgradeable). They have been swamped with Lecson owners reporting the same thing to them` Me thinks if this is the case and not just some helpline B******T then it will only get worse.
Interestingly enough this has only ever happened once before with a DVD of The Crimson Tide.
Don`t particulrly want to buy a new DVD player, but if helpline is telling the truth may have to !

Dont know if this will help or not. I`ve never had the trouble you have apart from a bad copy...I overcame this by pushing the numbers on the pad. On one disc number `1` started it on another it was something like 32. After finding out what number started it, it always worked using the same number.

Is this how the cartel of movie makers are deciding to stop all the cheap DVD player that are multi region and macrvision hackable?

Produce a top disk that just doesn`t play on any of them?

I have the identical problem with the Lecson DVD 900 and can work around it by using the `Access` button on the remote, and then programming to go to Chapter 1 Section 1.
This works even though `Goto` etc are blocked during the copyright message display. Now you can enjoy the film! If my method is not clear, email yadn[at]ku.oc.ooz since I do not normally look at this forum.

I doubt that this problem is intentional since the second disk does not lock up ufter the copyright message.
