Page 1 of Using Scan 2000 firmware on Manhattan DVD 2000

Hello!

I understand that it is possible to `upgrade` the Manhattan DVD 2000 firmware with the Scan 2000. Does anyone know if this upgrade procedure changes the `Brand` graphic on the front screen?
In other words, will my Manhattan then claim to be a Scan?

Don`t know the definitive answer, but if your manhattan does lose its identity it will just claim to be a "DVD video" cos that`s all the Scan says it is.
There is a manufacturer code in one of the hidden settings pages you could change if it does reset it - note down what it is for the manhattan (on the scan it is "SCN")

It shouild work but you shouild check the warranty issues with manhattan
before you do anything.

So - would that work for a Logix 3000 as well ?

My `Manhattan` (which is a sub brand of `Eurosat`) displays `EUR` as the manufacturer code. This is contained in the firmware file so I don`t see how this can be reset other than by restoring the old firmware (which of course I don`t have)

As Nilesh points out, this raises some interesting `warranty` points, hence my question about the `Manhattan` logo possibly disappearing. It would be really nice to know what things have been fixed in each firmware version, and I`m really tempted to do the v1.80 -> 2.08 sequence `cos I`d like to get rid of the `M` word but I`m feeling quite nervous :-)

What would be really nice if all companies were as open as Scan regarding firmware updates!

I guess that before you burn it you might be able to edit the file in a hex editor to change
stuff like the manufacturer code. At yoiur own risk of course!

AND I would hope that the firmware file includes a CRC check so any alterations mean that it doesn`t burn to EEPROM, so the `file edit` method probably won`t work - as you say `At your own risk` :-)

This would be rvery risky altering say a sc-2000 firmware with a hex editor then flashing it to a SC-2000, never mind another player.

The firmware for the SC-2000 contains compressed mips-x code, which must be decompressed then decompiled to be edited. Then recompiled.

That`s exactly why I`m not going to try the hex hack method, but a straight Scan firmware download MAY be on the cards.

I may seem a bit of a thicky here, but how exactly do these firmware upgrades work? Presumably you download them form the internet, but on to what? A disk or CDR? If CDR you would need a CD-writer wouldn`t you?
