My two pence worth in support of SCAN...

Colin Parsons (Harmless) posted this on Monday, 5th February 2001, 17:21

I just wanted to add my comments to the whole "Is the SCAN SC-2000 any good" debate. It seems there`s an awful lot of label snobs on this forum, who seem to think that just because a bit of kit doesn`t have the words "sony" or "toshiba" on it that it must be crap.

And do they base these assumptions on the fact that they`ve actually seen the SCAN in action ? I think not. They come to this conclusion from reading the SCAN problem posts on this forum.

This is incredibly narrow minded. Of course the majority of the posts regarding the SCAN are going to be negative. Most people who are happy with their player, won`t bother writing because why should they ?

The sad anoraks who get into the old "My player`s better than your player" thing, really need to get themselves lives.

I got my SCAN off my girlfriend for Christmas, and I have to say that it`s been superb. I`ve not upgraded the firmware from version 1.87 as it`s behaving itself perfectly well as it is. I have loads of R1 and R2 DVD`s and I`ve not seen a single glitch on any of them.

Also, as I spend all of my working week in hotels, it comes with me, and so far has been robust enough to withstand the knocks of traveling.

So I guess the point is that people shouldn`t be put off by some of the negative comments on this site. I`ll admit, I had a sinking feeling when I first found this site as I knew that my girlfriend had already ordered my player, but it all came good in the end.

For 175 quid I don`t think you can go wrong.

My original player was also a v187 and I was happy with it. Only downside was I wanted Macrovision off which meant a firmware upgrade. Burnt a CD-R with v204s put it in and it screwed my Scan.

Not sure if it was a dodgy download, or a bad burn. Scan sorted me out with a new machine via drop and pick and I`m happy with my machine as it is just now. Although I`m waiting for the next few firmwares so I can get Macro free and long MP3 filenames ;-)

Agreed.

I have had problems but i dont think this excuses the stick that scan get.

Most people use this forum for constructive purposes but there is still a minority who use it for "my machine is better than yours"purposes.

Pathetic

ps.We have the last laugh- we didnt pay a fortune and our player has more features than most of them put together.

Any Sony DVD machine is better than your Scan, you can post all you want, it won`t change that fact.

I would also say the, Encore, Medion, Himage, , ect....
are all better then scans, and two of those cost around a £100.00

We are not talking features they dont mean a sh*t if the machine does not work,

If you look up the scan threads you will read the worst horror stories of any other DVD player I know off.

I have asked this question before of you scan owners , can you name a more unreliable player than a scan? ( pheraps one of you will have the balls to answer the question)

If so please tell me has I would like to know!

And like I said before I have had Sony gear for eight years and it`s all still all going strong, so yes it is much better than scan a lot better.

Plus all my new Sony gear has a two year guarantee (no cost to me).
and came from a shop that is a member of BADA, and cost less then Dixons or Currys,

And 2p worth,yes that`s about right!

Well why spend £170/£180 on a SCAN when you can buy a Toshiba which will give great customer support (they pick up and deliver) and get advise (not at 50p a min or whatever some are) when it`s needed. Can`t say i`ve seen the SCAN but dont put down Toshiba owners or at the same time Sony owners. Each to their own :o)

Take care people!
