Pioneer DV360 player - a good player?

Faramir (Mostly Harmless) posted this on Thursday, 11th December 2003, 21:09

Hi,
I have not owned a DVD player before. I am after a decent machine that can play discs well. It does not have to have all the features on the planet!
I am thinking of getting a pioneer DV360 player from richer sounds.

Can anyone recommend this pioneer machine, or any other player in the £60-£80 range? :D

Yep it`s an excellent machine. If you want multiregion you can get it for £70 including delivery here

Yes, it`s a cracking little player and £75 for a multiregion version is fantastic.

Has anyone had problems with the Richer Sounds multiregion DV360 on R1 discs? We get moving horizontal lines - mainly on light scenes - almost looks like interference. I`m running the output as RGB. Tried Svideo last night, but only got black and white - but I`m sure our TV is NTSC compatible.

Is there a "hidden" menu to set the DVD player up for different TV types?

Do you have a Panasonic telly by any chance? Apparently, Pioneer players don`t work properly with some Panasonic TV sets - you get a sort of `banding` effect in RGB mode.

Unfortunately, there`s not much you can do about this, apart from (a) buy another player or TV, or (b) use S-Video instead of RGB. You might have to select a specific mode on your telly to use S-Video - AV2S instead of AV2 for example.

Yup, it`s a Panasonic TV. Looks like a change of DVD player is in order then....

I had exactly the same problem with my pioneer 350 dvd player + brand new panasonic t.v.... it is a compatability problem + believe me you cant do anything to cure the "banding" problem with region 1 discs ... got rid of my pioneer player + got the Toshiba sd330e dvd player from richer sounds ... far better player, in both picture and esp sound... banding problem now compleatly gone .great player the toshiba.... :D

Thanks - looks like I`ll be swapping then. Only pain is I`m past the 14 days, so we`ll have to see what they say - otherwise I guess it can be demoted to "spare room" duty, and I`ll order a Tosh 330 on line to save the fuel and time taken going to Richers...

Funnily enough I was tossing up between the 330 and the Pioneer...
