On the lookout for a good radeon 9800 Pro

Hi,

I`m looking to buy a Radeon 128MB 9800 pro. Can anyone recommend a good manufacturer of this card or has anyone had a bad experience with a particular card?

I also need recommendations on good online retailers to purchase from. I`ve checked out Dabs and Amazon. Can anyone recommend these or others?

Cheers

Problem: How do I tape from digital TV?????

Hi,

I have recently purchased a panasonic digital TV and have been wanting to tape programs from the digital channels e.g BBC4 ( I am on Freeview). However I cannot figure out how to tape from the digital channels. My TV manual goes on about something called Q-Link. I have no idea if my VCR supports this. I have tried following the instructions in the manual, using a scart lead, but nothing records. :/

basically I need someone to tell me parrot fashion what I need to do/have to tape from digital TV. :/ Do I need a VCR with specific functions for instance?

Hope someone can help.

Thanks :)

RE: Can anyone recommend a good graphics card?

Thanks for your input.

So is it better to go for a Radeon 9800pro with 128MB RAM, or a Radeon 9600pro with 256MB?

Is it better to go for the newer card, or the older one with more RAM?
How much of a factor is the extra RAM that the 9600pro has?

Can anyone recommend a good graphics card?

Hi,

I am looking to upgrade my computer graphics card shortly. I have heard that the Radeon 9600 Pro is a good card at a reasonable price. Is anyone using this card and is it any good?
I want a card that will be able to play the new games such as Doom 3 and HL2 (if they ever appear! >:( ). I am looking to spend about £90-£120.

My PC specs are:
1.3 Ghz Athlon
40GB HD
256MB RAM

....but I am planning to upgrade to:

2.8 Ghz
512MB RAM

Cheers

ukgraphicscards.co.uk - Any good?

Hi,

I`m looking for an online retailer to purchase a graphics card from. I`ve not much of an idea of where to start and am open to recommendations. Obviously I could try Amazon but I`m after a wider choice really. Has anyone used ukgraphicscards.co.uk and can they recommend them? Does anyone have any other recommendations?

Thanks a lot

RE: Lucky Search overides Google!

Thanks for the advice, but I am not sure what you are telling men to do. What is `regedit` and where do I find it? I need some more help!

Lucky Search overides Google!

I am having problems with a nasty programme that overides my homepage (google) and inserts itself as the new homepage whenever I dial-up. I get a search engine called LuckySearch and another one called Globe Finder. I have tried changing the homepage under internet options, but it still appears everytime i use the internet. Does anyone know how I can get rid of this annoying problem?

Thanks :/

Need advice on new TV aerial

I have recently purchased a digital TV and I am thinking of getting a new TV aerial to improve the reception. Can anyone give me some advice on what I should be looking for. How much should I be spending on a new aerial?
I already have a good analogue signal but I have been told that the digital reception can be improved with an aerial upgrade.

Thanks :)

RE: Panasonic Auto feature - is it any good?

I switch the TV on and for a moment the picture flashes up with Panasonic Auto written across it, but then the screen goes black and it can be up to 3 mins before the picture reappears again. My manual says that the auto feature can take several minutes to determine the correct viewing ratio.
Once the picture has appeared I can flick through the channels without any problems.

Panasonic Auto feature - is it any good?

I have just purchased a Panasonic DT4 digital TV. It has the Panasonic Auto feature to help determine the best screen ratio for the particular program I am watching.
I have noticed that when I first switch the TV on, it takes 3 or 4 minutes for the picture to come up. Is this due to the Panasonic Auto, or does my TV have something else wrong with it?
This is my first digital TV and I don`t know whether this is normal or not.

Thanks. :/

RE: Can anyone recommend a good 28" widescreen TV?

Thanks for all the advice guys. I have been looking at Panasonics recently so may go with those after all your good recommendations. Or maybe JVC.

Can anyone recommend a good 28" widescreen TV?

I am looking to buy a 28" widescreen TV, price range around £500-600. Have not bought a new TV for years. Can anyone recommend a good model/manufacturer? Preferably true flatscreen. :/

Cyberhome 402 player - any good?

I am thinking of getting a Cyberhome DVD402 player and would like to hear from anyone who owns/has owned one. Is this player any good? Can anyone recommend it or identify any problems they have had with it.

Thanks

Pioneer DV360 player - a good player?

Hi,
I have not owned a DVD player before. I am after a decent machine that can play discs well. It does not have to have all the features on the planet!
I am thinking of getting a pioneer DV360 player from richer sounds.

Can anyone recommend this pioneer machine, or any other player in the £60-£80 range? :D

Installing new graphics drivers

I am having problems installing some new graphics drivers on my computer. I have a Geforce 2MX card and have recently downloaded some new drivers from 3dchipset.com

When I try to install them, the computer keeps asking me in insert the `Nvidia compatible driver disk 1` .
I have no idea what this is or why it is asking for it when the files are on the hard drive.

Can anyone offer any help or an explanation for this? :/

Thanks

Can I connect my hi-fi to my pc?

Can someone tell me if I can connect my hi-fi/speakers to my PC. I have no idea if this is even possible. I would like to use the hi-fi speakers with the PC.
If it can be done, how do I go about it?
My hi-fi is not new, it is an AIWA Z1100.

Thanks for any help.

RE: return of the king trailer up

I am also stuck downloading trailers using a 56K plodding modem, but luckily I am able to `obtain` most of what I need from a mate of mine who has broadband. Take my advice C. Mac and find someone with a faster connection. `Let the train take the strain.` :D :D

And a world ending!

Return of the King Posters

Does anyone know of anywhere in the UK (online or a shop) where I can get the new ROTK teaser posters. I don`t want to order them from overseas. If anyone knows of anywhere please let me know.

Thanks

Limewire File Sharing Software

Did you see that stuff about movie piracy on BBC`s Breakfast programme this morning? There was a bloke from a file sharing software company called Limewire. Does anyone use this? Has anyone heard anything about it?

Need some prompt advice about motherboards!

I am currently upgrading my pc, getting a new motherboard and processor. I`ve decided on a 2.6 Athlon processor but I am not clued up on motherboards. I`ve seen both Gigabyte and Asus motherboards. Can these be recommended? Would there be a motherboard more suited to this processor type/brand?

Also if I decide at a later date to upgrade the processor again, is there a motherboard which is better `future proofed` than others or is that just a case of buying a newer model gives you better future-proofing?

I`ll also be having 256MB of DDR (upgrading from that soon too) and will need two USB ports.

I`ll be upgrading soon so any prompt advice would be appreciated!

Thanks

Graphics Card vs Monitor

Hi,

I`ve recently bought a Geforce4 MX 128MB. The card works fine and has improved both games and DVD playback. However I am having some problems with shutting down and starting up the computer. Sometimes when shutting down the shut down process freezes when the `windows is shutting down` screen appears (I am using windows98 by the way). And sometimes when starting up I switch on the computer and the monitor fails to switch on with it. It is left in standby and I have to then use the keyboard to shut the computer down `blind` as it where and try again.

Could this be an incompatibility problem with my graphics card or is it a problem with the monitor? I can`t see that the card is damaged in some way as it runs all my games and dvds fine.

Thanks

RE: Kill Bill - pre-release thoughts?

I disagree with cirdan. I thought it looked interesting and the yellow tracksuit will go down as an icon of modern film! Mark my words!

Uma Thurman really cuts it with that sword.

RE: AVG (free) Anti-Virus oftware

I have been using AVG for about six months and find it is very good. I no longer use my previous antivirus software (McAfee anti-virus).

Having RAM problems and need advice.

I bought 256MB RAM to work alongside my exisiting 256MB I already had. Slotted in the RAM, booted up the computer and got an error message:

initialising device CONFIGMG
windows protection error. restart your computer

Restarted the computer in safe mode and then tried a normal restart again. This time it gets to the windows 98 loading screen and crashes.

I can`t get anywhere with the new RAM. Do you think it is damaged, or is there some other explanation I`m not aware of?

I`ve tried the new RAM by itself and the computer does absolutely nothing after I switch it on.

Thanks

Need advice on Chaintech Geforce 4 card from Amazon.co.uk

I am a first time user to this site.

I have been thinking of getting a Geforce 4 graphics card from Amazon.co.uk. Has anyone ordered a graphics card from Amazon, and if so did you have any problems with it?
Has anyone had any problems returning electronic stuff to Amazon?

The graphics card is a Chaintech card. Has anyone heard of this make and is it any good?
