Page 1 of Cat 2050 From Lidl
Hardware Forum
Hi,
I got a home cinema system yesterday from Lidl for £129.99. It comes with a integrated DTS and Dolby 5.1 decoder and all the speakers.
The player plays all the formats you expect, and I like the way it navigates the MP3 disks, showing folder and file information! The radio is also good, even comes with RDS!
The picture looks ok, but then I have always had cheap players so its hard to tell. The sound though is excellent. I have never watched a film in DTS before, but it makes such a different. I was made to watch the Lion King last night, and even that was a lot better in DTS.
I`m not too sure if the price was good for a whole system? And im not too sure how the picture quality would hold up against other players, any advice would be good.
As its Lidl I could always take it back if I didnt like it, so any advice would be appreciated.
Thanks
:) Hey there
I got the same system on Monday over here in Northern Ireland from Lidl for £89.99 with the 5.1 speakers included. The sound from the speakers was awesome 8) however when I tried setting it up to multi regional and tried a few of my region 1 dvd`s it came up with the message wrong region have I missed something or do I need an unlock code. It was sold as a multi-regional player. :/
The handset hack is here on this site!

;)
This posted in an earlier forum looking for region hack for CAT HTC-2050 player, in case you didn`t see it:
"Turn the player on
Open the tray
Punch 0815 + regioncode 0
Close the tray
This will make the player multi-region."
Worked fine on a R1 copy of "Legally Blonde". I also tried 0815 + regioncode 1, looks like it locks it into a R1 player, 0815 + regioncode 3 = R3 player, you get the idea. Should in theory get around the RCE lark, as you can make the player region specific.
Incidently, this the 1st surround sound system I have purchased, and I`m well impressed with sound & picture quality, does everything I had hoped it would.

Hi,
I bought "In the Mouth of Madness" Region 1 disk over Christmas and it works fine on this player.
I agree the sound is good, but im a little unsure of the picture! I have noticed that sometimes there is a blue like shaddow around fast moving objects, especially when they are bright objects!! It is especially noticable in the scene in Lord of the Rings 2 when Goldorf is falling and fighting the dragon.
Is this a normal problem with low budget players?
I have the same system and agree that the sound is good. I noticed a delay in the sound when I set the source to TV or AUX (which has a SKY box connected to it).
Does any one have a similar problem?
Thanks,
DOB
:/
Hi,
I have not noticed any delay, i have the TV output connected to the TV input on the DVD. What im not sure about is if the TV setting is Pro-Logic? I have noticed that when playing a CD the display says Pro-logic, but not when TV setting is used!!
Strange!!
I have found the manual is poo, a lot of features are not mentioned, liek when on Radio, by pressing display you get the RDS information!!
Ben
From what I can hear (through the rear speakers) it is Pro-Logic when the program is brodcast in Pro-Logic.
If I turn the volume up on my TV at the same time I get an echo. does this happen with yours?
regards,
DOB
Hi,
No if i have both on then I just get 11 speakers, but no delay!
What do you think of the Picture Quality?
Ben
It looks good to me.
I`ll have a look at Lord of the Rings this evening and see if I can see that you are experiencing.
Regards,
DOB
