RE: Another Sainsburys Lodos bargain DVD Home Cinema

Hi,

Got one of these yesterday and seams pritty good so far.

Only one thing I have noticed. In the manual it talks about being able to have dolby surround from the AV input, but there is no option for this on the player. Anybody got any ideas?

Oh and is it multi-region hackable?

RE: S-Video Through SCART

Hi,

I`m looking for a Home Theatre system and the only ones I can find at the £150 - £180 mark are the Samsung HT-DB120 and the Sharp HT-CN400DVE from Richer Sounds which had been modified to be Multi-region.

If anybody has either and can advice I would appreciate it,

Thanks

Ben

S-Video Through SCART

Hi,

Up to now I have always connected my TV to my DVD thorough a S-Video cable. I need to get a new player and I have been looking at bothe the Sharp (Bee post below) and a Samsung. Although the Samsung says it has S-Video it doesn`t seam to have the connector on the back.

Can the DVD send the S-Video signal through the SCART cable and if so is there any degrading of the picture when doing so?

Thanks

Ben

SHARP HT-CN400DV Home Cinema

HI,

I was wondering if anybody has the SHARP HT-CN400DV Home Cinema system and if so can they answer some questions for me?

1) Is it multi Region?

2) If it is what is the Hack?

3) Does it support NTSC

4) Is it any good??

Cheers

Ben

RE: Cat 2050 From Lidl

Hi,

Yeah they took it back no problem, although I will have to wait 7 days for the cheque. The manager in the shop said they have had a few back, I told him the problems and he said they are simular to what others have found.

Then I went to Sainsburys and got a Mico Home Theatre system (T120) for only £99.99. Must say so far im rather impressed. The speakers are smaller than the cat system (So not as powerful), but they are crisp and the sub-woofer blasts it out nicely. It basically does the same functions as the Cat system, Dolby 5.1 DTS 5.1, radio RDS, MP3, JPEG.

The only negative I have found so far is in the Lord of the rings 2 scene when the Dragon is figting with Gandalf there was a slight cracking on the centre speaker, but then I did have it loud, I guess this is just clipping on the amplifier. Unlike the Cat system the picture is fine on DTS and Dolby setting.

RE: Cat 2050 From Lidl

Hi,

Well I`m taking mine back tonight as I have found too many problems on it. But if you like it I can help with the radio and TV settings.

You need to change to downmix setting to stereo and not 5.1 as it will be now, BUT when watching a DVD you will have to put it back as you will only get the DVD through 2 speakers.

Also look on the back of you telly for a S-Video input, this will give you a much better picture than the SCART cable will.

RE: Cat 2050 From Lidl

Hi,

To be honest I`ve lost confidence in it now, I mean if its happened to you and me whats to say another one wont do the same?

Advice

After deciding to take my LIDL player back im looking for a new player and i was wondering what you guys can advise?

I`d like it to have a built in decoder, and also be multi region. Price wise, somewhere around £50 - £70.

Any Ideas?

Thanks

Ben

RE: Cat 2050 From Lidl

Hi,

Over the weekend my player has also developed the delay, so its going back this week. There are too many features that are not good enough. Shame really.

www.cat-sound.com

Its German but the main bits are easy to understand.

RE: Cat 2050 From Lidl

Hi,

I found a number on the website and called it, I told a guy what was happening and he says he will speak to the Engineers and get back to me!

So i`ll let you know,

Ben

RE: Cat 2050 From Lidl

Is the service company from Lidl or from Cat? Where did you get their number?

You should be able to get DTS on it, does your copy of The Two Towers show the DTS symbol on the box?

RE: Cat 2050 From Lidl

You can either do it on the menu under `language set-up`, or when the DVD is playing press the "lang" button, it will rotate around all the different languages, if you look on the front of the DVD player it will say DTS when in the right mode!!

I have e-mail them to ask if this is a known limitation or if I have a faulty unit.

Ben

RE: Cat 2050 From Lidl

Hi,

I found out what the colour problem was last night, and its a strange one!!

Basically the blue shaddow occurs when in DTS mode!! All other modes are ok, the only thing I can think of is that DTS takes more processing power and the unit is struggling to keep up!!

Could you try setting it to DTS on The Two Towers and see if it happens on yours?

Cheers

Ben

RE: Cat 2050 From Lidl

Hi,

Thanks for that, it seams to make sense, it would explain why its blue only one colour, if one of the `guns` was slightly slow, or out of line!!

You could try e-mailing ikcinaJ[at]moc.GAmocigoL I sent a question to the website and this guy replied, worth a try!!

I`ll let you know about the colour things when I test it with my laptop!

Ben

RE: Cat 2050 From Lidl

Hi,

Thanks for that, I think I may connect my laptop to the TV and test it again, Im not sure if you have the Lion King!! But in the first sequence its really noticable! You can clearly see that when the dear moves there is like a blue shadow left after it moves!!

Ben

RE: Cat 2050 From Lidl

Hi,

We once got a phone from them, it was fine for months and then bust. We took it and and they have to send it off to HQ. Then within 7 days you will receive a cheque back for the amount. Unless they have them in stock they can`t replace it!!

It could also be a delay created by your Sky box, I dont have one so I cannot check this!

ben

RE: Cat 2050 From Lidl

Thanks, it could be my TV, so it would be interesting to see if you get the same!!

Regards the delay, there is some delay setting for dolby, mine are set to 0, maybe these are set up on yours?

Ben

RE: Cat 2050 From Lidl

Hi,

No if i have both on then I just get 11 speakers, but no delay!

What do you think of the Picture Quality?

Ben

RE: Cat 2050 From Lidl

Hi,

I have not noticed any delay, i have the TV output connected to the TV input on the DVD. What im not sure about is if the TV setting is Pro-Logic? I have noticed that when playing a CD the display says Pro-logic, but not when TV setting is used!!

Strange!!

I have found the manual is poo, a lot of features are not mentioned, liek when on Radio, by pressing display you get the RDS information!!

Ben

RE: Cat 2050 From Lidl

Hi,

I bought "In the Mouth of Madness" Region 1 disk over Christmas and it works fine on this player.

I agree the sound is good, but im a little unsure of the picture! I have noticed that sometimes there is a blue like shaddow around fast moving objects, especially when they are bright objects!! It is especially noticable in the scene in Lord of the Rings 2 when Goldorf is falling and fighting the dragon.

Is this a normal problem with low budget players?

Cat 2050 From Lidl

Hi,

I got a home cinema system yesterday from Lidl for £129.99. It comes with a integrated DTS and Dolby 5.1 decoder and all the speakers.

The player plays all the formats you expect, and I like the way it navigates the MP3 disks, showing folder and file information! The radio is also good, even comes with RDS!

The picture looks ok, but then I have always had cheap players so its hard to tell. The sound though is excellent. I have never watched a film in DTS before, but it makes such a different. I was made to watch the Lion King last night, and even that was a lot better in DTS.

I`m not too sure if the price was good for a whole system? And im not too sure how the picture quality would hold up against other players, any advice would be good.

As its Lidl I could always take it back if I didnt like it, so any advice would be appreciated.

Thanks
