Page 1 of Sky Remote control signal transmiters

Hello everyone

I am in search of one of those devices that allows you to use your remote control from a different room, so if you have the ability to watch you sky output in another room you are also able to change to channel (as long as you take the remote with you). I am sorry I do not know what they are called, but I know they exist.

I wanted to know if anyone has any experiance of them... Do they work well? Also where is the best place to buy them?

Aldis had them in a couple of weeks ago too for £30. You could see if they have any left. I just set mine up yesterday, now got cable TV on my PC (the remote relay doesn`t work with NTL boxes though, so you have to go to the box to turn over - a downside to any of them when used with an NTL box by all accounts - not sure about Sky boxes). Picture is very good.

You do need to connect your remote TV to the Sky box via an RF cable, which I assume is what you mean.

That`s a Sky "magic eye" you`re describing, and in my experience, they work when they wanna!

However, if I read this original question right, what you`re looking for is an AV sender unit, with remote receive/transmit capability.

These are upwards of around £30 these days, and go as high as £100+
(Scart or phono input on the back, connect the A/V device and sit the "transmitter" in front of the device being controlled, now take the "receiver" and connect it via Scart/Phono to the other set you want to watch on, sit it on top to receive the commands from your remote and away you go!)

And, to the best of my knowledge, these bits of kit should also work fine with Cable boxes, unless their remote frequency is out of the "sending" range of the transmitter...

...happy to be corrected on that last bit though :D

Yeah Jimbo your right, thats what I was initally in search of. But I didn`t realise the TVLink`s existed. After doing a bit of searching I found TVLink which is covers the requirements we needed. Anyway it arrived, I set it up in my bedroom today without any hassle (it luckly intergrated into the TV distribution system I set up in our house), and it works a dream!

I have a magic eye and find that when i connect the co-ax cable to my second TV through the magic eye the picture qualilty isn`t quite as sharp as it is when the cable goes stragiht from digibox to TV.

It wouldn`t be as the 2nd signal is transmitted via an RF signal which the TV has to be tuned in to. This is never as as clear as a direct [RGB] SCART connection direct between sat and TV.
