Best pre £60 DVD Player at the moment

Vark (Mostly Harmless) posted this on Tuesday, 20th January 2004, 11:53

Hi

I`m wanting to ditch my Dansai 852 for a newer cheap DVD player. Been looking around at the Cyberhome ones but just wondered what you enlightened people thought was the best budget DVD Player post Christmas so-to-speak.

Looking for DTS, Optical Out, DVD-R/RW compatability, good picture/sound as a definite, any suggestions ?

Yakumo XL2 Multi-region DVD Player £35.00 plus free P&P in UK at Amazon, best sub £100.00 player I would say. just read the reviews, no optical out though.

Oscar.

I don`t usually advocate `cheaper` players but I was grudgingly impressed by the Pacific 1002 my mother bought herself.
£43 from Asda.
Ugly phecker of a thing, but performance is pretty damned good and it`s laughably easy to make it multiregion.
I noted loads of stickers on the box quoting excellent reviews from respected magazines as well.
Couldn`t tell you if it can handle DTS however, sorry.

Vark

Can you stretch your budget by another £6 to £66?

If so you can get the Pioneer 360 either in black or silver from Superfi (online) which is Multi Region. This player should meet your needs

To get this price you need to e-mail them with a Price beat. I choose Amazon and they knocked it down from £79.99 to £65.95 incld delivery

Delivery is quick. I order mine last Monday morning and it arrived the next day

Just a thought.. :/
If the 360 is available for £66 at Amazon, why bother price-matching it at Superfi ?
Why not just order it from Amazon ?????

Kebabhead
I`m confused.
Superfi`s website says the item must be in stock at a competitors ( which they clearly aren`t at Amazon as they quote 4-6 weeks ) and the offer does not apply to individual items under £100 in value.
Going by their own terms they should tell me to GTF !

I got a ronin p80h from dabs.com (listed as dabsvalue p80h)
Its a great player that can handle everything i have thrown at it.
It is easy to make multiregion, providing you have a cd writer to burn the new firmware on it and update it.

Think carefully before ditching the 852. This is one of a handful of players that can disable macrovision and provides a proper pal translation of American NTSC discs. You will be very lucky to find these features in any of the models being recommended.
