RE: DVD-HD870 Samsung

For the HD870 at least to get the region hack to work you need to downgrade the firmware.

Go here http://www.samsung.com/pl/products/dvdplayer/dvdplayer/dvd_hd870.asp

its in Polish but click on the link down the bottom called "tutaj" in blue.

Then burn the files to a CD and use this to downgrade the firmware in the player. Then the region hack should work.

Not tried this myself but I got this info of avforums.

Best pre £60 DVD Player at the moment

Hi

I`m wanting to ditch my Dansai 852 for a newer cheap DVD player. Been looking around at the Cyberhome ones but just wondered what you enlightened people thought was the best budget DVD Player post Christmas so-to-speak.

Looking for DTS, Optical Out, DVD-R/RW compatability, good picture/sound as a definite, any suggestions ?

RE: Richer Sounds

It is excellent, the sound quality from my old crappy speakers is superb (used them with my prologic) and getting my new ones on Saturday. Tried the Galaxy Quest in DTS and it was amazing. Tested it out on First Contact during the beginning space battle and I was only going to watch it through that but ended up watching the whole movie. I ordered it online by the way.

Richer Sounds

Just bought a Managers Clearance Special - Sherwood 6106R from Richer Sounds and although there was a problem with Business Express Courier not being able to find my address the amp is in perfect condition. It was supposed to have minor scratches on it but I can`t find any. £149 for DD 5.1 and DTS Amp is pretty darn good in my book considering I`m on a tight budget.

New Firmware for Samsung 709

Hi

Just had my firmware upgraded for my Sammy 709. Originally it had V3.19 and therefore wouldn`t play VCD`s or titles such as the Matrix (RCE titles were okay strangely enough) and the Samsung Remote Control Hack would not work either. Now got V3.32 in it. If anyone interested in new firmware and having trouble sourcing it email sjb[at]ku.oc.rednoyeulb for more information. Got fast turnaround too. Also can suppy your own Eprom Programmer too.

Now I`ve got my Sammy working how I like, need to find a budget Dolby Digital amp to connect to it, anyone recommend one ?

RE: dolby digital amps advice?

Which Sherwood model were you talking about ?

RE: getting stung by customs?

Actually if you look at the postage on the jiffy`s they are posted in THIS country. From what I can remember they bulk post orders to Ireland then ship them through Royal Mail.

RE: A Hack for the Grundig GDV520 system well sort of

I`ve been told the remote hack for the Orion DVD player works.

RE: LG 3000E @ Tesco`s

Definitely the LG 3000E. It also mentions on the box Dolby Digital and DTS output.

LG 3000E @ Tesco`s

Anyone know anything about the LG 3000E ? Our Tesco have them for £169.

Can`t find anything on them, Are they region freeable ?

RE: Grundig GDV520 DVD Model No. & Hack

Apparently the Goodman 3000 remote hack works, or nearly works.

Sorry, you posted that too. :(

RE: Wharfedale 750S

You need to set the switch to PAL60 on the back.

Minato DVD Players - Are they Any Good ?

Our Tesco has eight Minato DVD Players at £129 and four Wharfedale 750s at £169.

I`m a bit wary of Wharfedale as I had two 28" Wharfedale TV`s, first one colour went, second one blew up, then I got my money back.

The 750s got a good write up in Home Cinema Choice. The Minato is loosely based on the 750s but is it any good ? What outputs has it on the back and does it out to RGB ? What PAL/NTSC output does it have. I know you can get the region hack mod from dvdchips, anyone discovered the remote hack yet ?

thanks

RE: Region Hack for Panasonic HTC80 all in one

Thanks for that. Cheapest I have seen is £484 with multi region capability, so when I get enough pennies I might get one.

RE: Region Hack for Panasonic HTC80 all in one

www.techtronics.com do a diy mod or they fit it. Expensive though. No Panansonic ones are remote hackable I think.

What do you think of the HTC80 ? I am thinking of getting one myself or maybe the SC-PM08.

What outputs does it have ? Whats the DVD playback like and the sound too ?

RE: GRUNDIG GDV520 HOME THEATRE

Have you tried the remote control region fix for the Grundig 220 as I was wondering whether it could be the same as the DVD in the 520 ? Maybe worth trying all the Grundig remote control fixes ?

RE: Anyone know of a good home cinema kit for under £350

It`s currently selling at £170 on Dabs and you get the new Sonic Fury soundcard which for £170 is a REAL bargain.

Any hacks for DVD/Hifi Combo Systems such as Grundig/Panasonic/Samsung

Hi

Anyone know of any multi-region hacks for the following systems :-

Panasonic SC-PM08 DVD/Dolby Digital HiFi System
http://www.panasonic.co.uk/nw/products/product.asp?c=SCPM08
(£409 Empire Direct)

Samsung MAX-DN55 DVD/Dolby Digital HiFi System
http://www.samsungelectronics.co.uk
(Miller Bros £479)

Grundig GDV-520 DVD/Dolby Digital Speaker System
(Dixons/Currys £399)

All three can be viewed at Currys or Dixons, but the cheapes I have found is in brackets. Just wondering whether to replace my Pro Logic hifi with one of the above but I don`t want to if they don`t do Region 1.

I suspect the GDV-520 is the same DVD player as the Grundig 220 which is multi-regional but doesnt play RCE discs.

Anybody got one of these ? Are they any good too ?

Panasonic SC-PM08 DVD/Hifi Combo - Is it any good ?

Hi,

Anybody had any experiences of the Panasonic SC-PM08 DVD/Hifi Combo ?

Dixons and Curry`s have it for £499. Wondered if it was any good. Check out http://www.panasonic.co.uk/nw/products/product.asp?c=SCPM08
for the specs.

Dolby Digital etc

Samsung MAX-DN55 DVD/Sound System - Any good ?

RE: GRUNDIG GDV520 HOME THEATRE

Actually I got it wrong it`s just a DVD player and 5.1 Dolby Digital AMP with speakers, No Radio etc. oops

RE: Rugrats Sucess & the JVCXV515.....

Found the www site I followed it is at

http://www.twi.ch/~i7eberha/eng/codefree/cfjvc5xxeng.htm

p.s. also note my serial number WAS higher than 134Kxxxx and it
worked.

RE: Rugrats Sucess & the JVCXV515.....

I too searched high and low for a hack for the 515, Can`t remember the exact www site (the one mentioned by Rugrat no longer exists). I do remember that all it involved was cutting a link inside.

This machine was brand new, and I was petrified that it wouldn`t work and we wouldn`t be able to take it back as I had cut this link etc etc etc.

Well, I thought sod it. Got a pair of nail scissors, cut the tiny half inch link inside (can`t remember which one without opening the machine again).

Turned it on, sigh of relief as I got the "HELLO" (is this just the coolest message on a DVD player or am I sad) it worked. May be a bit different from Rugrats mod, but in normal operation it is R2. To get it to play Region 1 DVD`s I have to turn off the machine at the socket, with the R1 DVD inside, then when it restarts it reads the Region 1 DVD no problems. Outputs in PAL 60 too. Only problem I have ever had is that it did not work with Region 1 Matrix, but did with Region 2 Matrix. Plays Gladiator okay too so no RCE problem.

RE: GRUNDIG GDV520 HOME THEATRE

The model is a GDV-520 and is currently at £399 from Dixons. I tried the Grundig WWW site and there is no info on this. From what I can remember it is a full hi fi system offering Dolby Digital output, with a DVD player, tape deck and radio. The DVD/CD player is a 5 disc changer. It seems pretty good value for money. The only other one I can think of is the Sony one which got 5/5 in Home Cinema Choice but costs about £550.

Question is, can the DVD player be made to read Region 1. Has anyone got one of these ? I`ve tried to find reviews on many www sites but can`t find any. There is a problem with RCE discs apparently on Grundig DVD players, but I was wondering whether the GDV-520 DVD Player was equivalent to one of the Grundig stand alone DVD Players. This would then make it work with the Proline 1000 Hack found on these pages. I wouldn`t mind upgrading my old pro logic hi fi, I did think about getting the Videologic DD kit but then I would still need a hi-fi. This Grundig all in one seems perfect, albeit the speakers look a bit small. Anybody found out anything new about this ?
