Sony STRDB940 v Yamaha DSPA5
I am currently considering these two AV amps and would be grateful for opinions.
Is the Sony worth £100 more? What are the remotes like (I understand the Sony has a programable remote)
Thanks

I quite like the DSPA5 remote. It is semi-programmable, ie you can use it to control your TV, VCR, CD, DVD, as long as you have the four-digit code from the manufacturer. The manual that comes with the amp has a big collection of numbers for all the popular brands. I can control my TV, VCR and cable box (as well as the amp obviously :)

Yamaha all the way!!!!!

I`ve just checked the prices of both amps at Richer Sounds Site.
Yamaha A5 = £263
Sony DB950 (with tuner) = £370
I`m looking to buy one myself and have heard that for premium sound quality pick the Yamaha but the Sony does have a lot more features including the built-in tuner which the A5 lacks.
For a small room and if you don`t want to splash out you could go for a Sherwood. The cheapest is only £99 !!
If you see the price of the sony/yamaha cheaper elsewhere let us know as apparently richer sounds will beat any price for £50 less !!)
Don`t even think about Sherwood total rubbish, you would set it up and scream crap.Take the Sony it`s the best, look at any review over the last year and it the Sony Sony Sony it will blow the Yam away.I tryed both in a demo room in the w/end,and walked out with a lovley silver Sony 940.Just remenber if you buy the Sony make sure it`s the Q.S.the u.k one.
Very subjective thread. I`d suggest booking a demo room at your local Sevenoaks or Richer, take along a few of your own CDs and DVDs and test away.
I`ve always been a staunch Sony supporter, but as soon as I clapped eyes on the....oops, what am I on about - try it for yourself, mate !!!
