Which TV???

fzr600r (Mostly Harmless) posted this on Saturday, 31st January 2004, 12:14

I`m thinking of getting a new TV soon. I`ve got about £1500 to spend and I`m looking for something that`s at least 36 inch widescreen.

I don`t know too much about what good TVs are on the market, so any help would be appreciated!

Cheers!

I wish i had that money, so much choice, take a day off go round every tv shop you know and say that and get pampered. However if you have sky, digi tv and watch it a hell of a lot would stay away from rear projection because of the screen burn, they deny it, but it happens have seen it. Any way enjoy.

I`m no expert on this but I have had a 32" Toshiba Widescreen TV 100HZ 5.1 Sound for the last 5 years and it has been, and still is, a great TV. They have obviously come on leaps and bounds since then. I did notice at Currys website that they are doing a Toshiba 36" 100HZ and 5.1 sound for £1353.25 if you purchase via website. I`m sure it will be better than what I have and if it is then it will be v good. 5 Years ago I paid £1650.

Let`s hope I`ve not confused matters!

Cheers.

Nice scaremongering tactic and you`re a couple of years out of date :)

Take it you haven`t noticed the SkySports logo actually MOVES now to prevent screen burn?
OK, watch a lot of news channels and the BACKING COLOUR of the ticker tape area will eventually burn, but only if you watch it for extended perids.

If ya got £1500, do yourself a HUGE favour....save up another £500 and get a DLP, technically still a projector as it "rear projects" the picture, but the only "bad" characteristic it shares with standard rear projection is the viewing angle thing, which is vastly improved. In a normal home situation (even a large one) the viewing angle is perfect, but make sure you see it with a GOOD input, not an in store aerial feed.

OH, and DLP tellys DO NOT SCREEN BURN....at all...nada...not gonna happen!
(also great on 100htz motion blur)

PS: Did I mention this is the only set to actually produce a DIGITAL picture? The final digital to analogue converter in this telly`s setup is your very own EYE!
And if anyone knows a better D/A converter than the human eye, lemme know <grin>

Phew! Glad I didn`t mention the screen burn on rear projection TV`s! I didn`t realise there would be tactical scaremongerers on this site.

Strange how my mother in laws samsung 1yr old rear projection with 100 hz digital set has ideal world logos burnt into it, as she never has it off the shopping channels.
