Right, here goes, before the sonel, when trying to back up a disc, "copy protection" came up in the r311 display. Now with the sonel cable, "copy protection" gone, but picture jumps & flickers, as if macro still there. Any ideas?? Cheers guys, apologies if should be in hardware forum :/
RE: Mico r311 vs sonel macromaster!!!!
This happened to me, although I am using my macromaster in conjunction with a scart switcher. You just need to supply some power. Plug in a variable voltage power supply, 9 volts or 12 volts, and all should be well.

RE: Mico r311 vs sonel macromaster!!!!
Hi Axe-man
Having some problem :( I have a mico r311 a sonel macrobuster pro and a plug in a variable voltage power supply, 9 volts or 12 volts all I want to do is back up my DVDs to VCR so I can watch them in my bedroom. I have connected them in every conceivable way to no avail please help
RE: Mico r311 vs sonel macromaster!!!!
I`m stumped. It ought to work OK. The end of the Sonel with the power supply input should be connected to the DVD player. If you`re still getting a flickering picture, it might be worth asking Sonel to send a replacement, in case you have a duff lead. Sorry mate, don`t know what more to suggest.

This is proving easier said than done!!! Can`t find a power supply with the right sized connector for the sonel!!!!!!!!! :( :( :( It`s definitely not the cable at fault though, it works fine from vhs, it`s just flickering with dvd. Ah well, the search goes on, thanks again for the tip though :D

Sorry for being late in replying, but I got my PSU a long time ago, so can`t advise if that`s the one. As long as it`s got a load of connectors and it`s not rated at more than 500mA (I think) it should be OK.

I also have a Sonel Macromaster, with the same results.
The problem is that while VHS videos are protected by Macrovision (an alalogue system), most DVDs are protected by a different, more complex, digital / analogue encryption involving watermarks. Part of the encryption is on the disk, and part is generated by the DVD player that is playing the disk. This means that the recording device (your Mico) "knows" it is being asked to record a copyright source. Some early DVD players - mainly chinese manufacture - did not include the CSS system. However international law now enforces that all manufacturers include the system as part of the liecense deal to use the current DVD technologies.
Earlier DVDs which were only protected by Macrovision will be copiable
