can i get this channel on sky?
It`s called Raisat 3, it`s an Italian channel and there`s a programe i particularly want to watch on it. Is it possible to add it to the `other channels` on sky like it is with the itv regions?
Thanks for your help.
Afraid not - it`s on a different satellite (Hotbird at 13 degrees East rather than Astra 2 at 28.2 degrees East), so you`d need a movable dish in order to get it.
Mike
You shouldn`t need a moveable dish according to that link I sent.
However, you do need some equipment upgraded.
Bottom line seems to be, you ain`t gonna get it without outlay !
Yeah,just checked.
You need an 80cm dish (instead of the 60cm dish usually supplied by SKY) + a second LNB fitted to the dish + a new receiver + installation.
Basically a whole new set-up !
£249 for the lot.
That will give you all the free Italian channels + your SKY package.
Buona fortuna !
RE: can i get this channel on sky?
You can do it cheaper than that
OK, two things-do you still have an old Sky analogue system ? You can still get RAI Uno, Due and Tres in analogue. You can pick these up for nothing (Ebay regularly has decent analogue receivers complete with dish for under a fiver with nobody bidding!!) and that would give you the channel you want...I would take it that it will, at some point go off analogue (sooner rather than later, too). The 60cm dish will work for RAI..you may find you lose the signal in heavy rain or snow, but the signal is strong enough under normal conditions to be watchable with a 60cm
Secondly..if you want it in digital, you don`t need to buy a new receiver...The frequency is tunable by your SKY receiver, so you can add it to your `extra channels`. You could either set up a dedicated dish for Hotbird, or throw up an 80cm dish and get a little gizmo that holds two lnb`s-the dish is centered on one of the satellites, with the second lnb being offset to receive signals from the other satellite (see the pictures on http://www.satalogue.com/section4/page5.htm). You`d also need an A/B switch to select which satellite you want to view.
If you didn`t want to use your Sky box, you can pick up free to air receivers very cheap, but an alternative could be the Skystar 2 PCI card-slots into your PC, run the lnb feed to the back of your PC and get great pictures on your PC..You can even record these to your hard drive for future viewing, or even burn to disc. If your video card has `TV Out` you can even watch it on your normal telly! The Skystar 2 card will cost you about 60 quid, though if you shop around, you can get it for £45-ish.
Hope that helps..drop me a line if you want any further info on this
Oh what do you know
You are a lady ! ;)
RE: can i get this channel on sky?
Thanks for that emilyhoward, it just so happens that i have got the old analogue dish. So do i just have to plug the box back in and i`ll have Raisat 3, or do i have to also tune it in?
