Hardware Forum
Just purchased one of these babies.
Can someone confirm whether there should be an optical cable (digital) to connect to surround sound amp provided in the box?

Hi mate,
It may sound silly but there should be a checklist that tells you exactly what is inside the box. I personally doubt that there will be one provided. Hope its a decent player as im just in the middle of buying the DMRE 65!
:)
Neither my E50, nor my E55 came with anything other than the usual useless phono leads for rubbish composite connection.
Does anyone actually use this type of connection these days ??? :/ >:(
Even my cheapo Pacific 1002 came with a scart, albeit a rubbish one.
You can get a pretty good optical lead from B&Q for£9.99, I just got one and it`s ok.
The E55 comes with composite leads which are not as good as scart leads which you need for RGB quality The cheapest place for scart leads is Index catalogue store (within Littlewoods store). A basic 1.5 metre Scart to Scart lead costs £3.25, the Gold Plated version costs £4.75 & a 5 metre Gold plated one costs £5.75.
Tesco`s sell a 1.5m gold plated scart lead for about £3

..and this is relevant - how?
Scarts/composits are for video with audio signals
The E55 Toslink is for audio only connection to an AV receiver

Well, if you bothered to read the post I was answering, you would see that the post from GCXBoy was talking about where to get cheap gold plated scarts- & I was telling him somewhere cheaper
