Problem: How do I tape from digital TV?????

Faramir (Mostly Harmless) posted this on Sunday, 27th June 2004, 15:58

Hi,

I have recently purchased a panasonic digital TV and have been wanting to tape programs from the digital channels e.g BBC4 ( I am on Freeview). However I cannot figure out how to tape from the digital channels. My TV manual goes on about something called Q-Link. I have no idea if my VCR supports this. I have tried following the instructions in the manual, using a scart lead, but nothing records. :/

basically I need someone to tell me parrot fashion what I need to do/have to tape from digital TV. :/ Do I need a VCR with specific functions for instance?

Hope someone can help.

Thanks :)

Not sure about your TV but on my TV it`s as follows...
My AV3 scart on the back of my TV goes to the scart on my VCR. My TV has a menu to decide the AV3 output. One of the options is `Digital Tuner`. Set it to this.
Then on the VCR set the recording channel to tha same scart No. that the lead goes into. Record.
On my TV if you record this way you have to keep the TV switched on while recording but can watch another channel via the analogue tuner.
Another way, which is probably what your manual is referring to is via Q-link. On my Sony the same functionality is Smartlink and by going through the TV guide on the TV you can select a programme and it will start the video itself. Doing it this way you can put the TV into Standby and the video still picks up the signal from the tuner and the standby light flashes every 10 seconds or so..

We will pay the price but we will not count the cost..
