Setting tv channels on dvd recorder

bLUENOSE1 (Competent) posted this on Wednesday, 7th July 2004, 00:21

:/ :/ I have at last set up my compacks 101 dvd recorder and worked out how to tune it in. Only problem is I cant work out how to put the channels in order ie 1 2 3 channel 4 etc. Can anyone help me and what does FC the channel mean?

FC is fine tune - you cannot swap channel order - you have to make a note of the frequencies for all the channels you want to swap around and then fine tune them into place - it`s a real pain.

Surely this problem relates only to the analogue tuner. You are wasting the dvd quality by not recording via Sky Digibox or Freeview

Depends..`Digital Quality` is one of the buzzwords being used to sell the new technology..it doesn`t necessarily mean `Better Quality`...a good nicam analogue signal can be far superior to the crap quality of stuff like the ITV regions on Sky Digital. If I`m recording direct to my DVD recorder, I`ll use the analogue connection for ch1-4

So you will have no proper widescreen pictures.Ironically, analogue transmissions of BBC channels are simply feeds from the digital signal,so any shortcoming on the digital picture will be on the analogue one too.

Like to know where that comes from because it`s certainly not true here!!!

The analogue picture is pin sharp on BBC and ITV, yet the digital pictures via Sky and, to a lesser extent, freevieware poor. I can live with 14:9 and a sharper image..or even just expand it to 16:9 with no perceptable loss in quality..

I too have just purchased this DVD recorder. I can get it working to play DVD`s but it will not pick up any channels. I have connected scart from TV to DVD, Freeview box via scart to TV, arial into Freeview box and arial out on DVD. This is not producing any channels. Can you tell me how you did it? With regards to FC - that is in fact favourite channel - it simple means you can select or deselect which channels you want to show/watch thru the DVD player. Cheers Jackie

DId you folllow the instructions to the letter? A lot of these got returned as `faulty` when Sainsbury`s introduced them because people didn`t fully read the instructions... To `wake` the machine up you gave to press a certain button as soon as you plug it in gor the first time, then it goes into auto tuning mode, picking up all the things you`ve got in the RF `loop` and whatever is attached to your A/V inputs.

I`m pretty sure that this information was put into the box separately from the other booklet. If you don`t see it, phone your locals Sainsbury`s, as all their Electrical Department staff were told about this ages ago
